Puppets,[1][2] also known as Dark Foes,[3] are enemies in NieR Reincarnation.
Characteristics[]
Puppets are dark, bipedal creatures with long necks and a hunched appearance. They share the same large, distinctive eyes with Black Birds.[4] Similar to other enemies, Puppets are created when a flock of Black Birds combine with each other.[5]
In The People and the World, Hina and Yuzuki are ambushed by a group of Puppets after reaching the last satellite location. The Puppets talk to the siblings and confirm that the pair opened a gateway into The Cage by converging The Cage's sun and moon.[3]
In Hidden Story No. 3 for 10H, the android accidently creates a massive Puppet by writing new stories in anger. After 10H rewrites its story, the Puppet gains the desire to live and is reborn as a girl similar in appearance to 10H.[6] The girl later becomes an exact copy of 10H after inheriting her memories[7] and is implied to be the 10H known as "friend" seen in The People and the World prologue.[Note 1]

In the updated version of Gayle's fifth Hidden Story, "Half a Hunter's Life," an entity listed as "e58f8b" claims to be born from 10H and asks Mama to be taken to The Cage. The code e58f8b is hexidecimal for 友 ("friend"), which is used as 10H's name in her epilogue appearance in Japanese and English, respectively.
