The Dejarik Monsters: A History of Holochess

Image

The game of holochess first appeared in A New Hope, showing eight monstrous creatures fighting each other in a match between Chewbacca and R2-D2. This sequence was created by animator Phil Tippett through very detailed stop motion. All of the creatures would later be fleshed out by the Customizable Card Game in 1996, with each one receiving a card that gave both a name and short description which usually established the creature to be native a familiar planet. The name dejarik itself came from around the same time, originally sourced from West End Games RPG material.

The Crymorah Syndicate (2026)

A topic that I’ve written about a couple of times in the past is the live-action TV show that George Lucas and Rick McCallum attempted to have made in the late 2000s, known by the working title Underworld. Lucas assembled a writers room that put together dozens of scripts about numerous Star Wars characters both returning and original. The project ultimately failed to materialize due to production difficulties, with only some proof of concept test footage ever shot that leaked online years ago.

The Mandalorian Visual Guide Continuity Breakdown

The Mandalorian Visual Guide is now officially out in the UK, with over 200 pages detailing the show’s three seasons and more. I was very sad when this book was put on hold a few years ago but ultimately it is nice for the book to be able to cover more than it originally was. These books are always very dense and I’m sure there’s plenty of details I missed, so feel free to call me out on any.

Top 50 Star Wars Continuity Nods and References

The last decade of Star Wars has seen the release of five films and ten seasons of live action television, an unprecedented number in the history of the franchise. Within all of these stories are countless details, deep pulls, and references hidden by people in every step of the development process. I thought it would be fun to review my 50 favorites from these projects, going over the deepest cuts and most fun easter eggs to be found in them all.

Breaking Down A Scene: The Galaxies Opera House

Image

The scene is set in the Galaxies Opera House, a popular locale for Coruscant’s upper class located in the Uscru district. This is the same district as the Outlander Club from Attack of the Clones, which is reinforced by many of the signs and advertisements outside of the opera house being recycled from that scene. The setting was recently revisited during a scene in the third season of The Mandalorian.

Star Wars in 2025 Continuity Breakdown

Image

While technically a lot of Skeleton Crew aired in December 2024, there’s enough overlap I’ll cover it some since I never gave it a full breakdown. As confirmed by the creators, the show’s frequent mentions of At Attin’s role in the Republic’s “Great Work” is intended to call to mind the High Republic and the Great Works of Lina Soh, though the two may or may not be directly related. In the first episode of the show, Neel’s younger siblings watch the same hologram circus watched by Lumpy in the Holiday Special, dutifully recreated by the show’s crew. In the second episode, they visit Port Borgo, an underworld location from the Young Jedi Knights books. While there, they encounter a speedy Teek ferryman, the same species as the character from the TV movie Ewoks: The Battle for Endor

The Coruscant Reckoning Calendar

When fans consider and discuss the broad Star Wars timeline, they are likely to talk about it using the BBY/ABY dating system, an old system used by reference material for roughly the last thirty years. This is based upon the idea of A New Hope as the center of the timeline with the Battle of Yavin, with all other events sorted Before or After. Basing the timeline around the original film definitely makes sense for casual discussion, and as such the system has become widely used. There are multiple canonical in-universe uses of it to be found in Galaxy’s Edge, and it served as a ticking clock with each time jump in both seasons of Andor. That said, the system is not without its flaws. The zero year happening in the middle of the saga leads to inconsistencies over how the years should be defined, and it doesn’t make much sense as an in-universe calendar because the Battle of Yavin is arguably far from the most important event we have come to see. Because of these reasons, recent years have seen the subtle shift towards a new dating system to be used more easily in-universe: the Coruscant Reckoning Calendar, or C.R.C.

Andor Season Two Continuity Breakdown

The second season of Andor has come to a close, bringing the end of what has been for my money easily one of the best Star Wars stories we’ve ever had. Despite by all accounts not being a fan himself, Tony Gilroy has proven that he takes established lore very seriously, approaching it with almost the same manner that he approaches real history, and this shows clearly in the results. In addition to plenty of cute little easter eggs, the most impressive aspect of the season’s continuity to me is the manner with which it tells the story of Ghorman, Mon Mothma, and the Rebellion by picking up threads from places like West End Games and Rebels while creating something entirely new and different.

Where in the Galaxy is At Attin?

The central premise of Skeleton Crew revolves around the planet of At Attin, a Jewel of the Old Republic hidden away centuries prior to protect its mint. The show actually pays an impressive amount of attention to detail when it comes to the mystery of At Attin’s location, which the characters spend much of the series attempting to find.

Complete Locations, New Edition Continuity Breakdown

A new edition of the Complete Locations reference book was released this week, with some new spreads and edits courtesy of a couple of my favorite Star Wars people, Jason Fry and Emily Shkoukani. As soon as I found out the book had a map, I knew I’d be getting it, and there are plenty of other fun details to be found buried in its text.
