[ the torrential downpour had no warning. one moment, they had been facing off against some creature summoned by the dark side of the neververse and the next—everything was getting washed away in a mixture of water and mud and debris.
why had they even picked this area for a showdown? honestly. but akane had been quick on her feet, heels not hindering her movement as she jumped and skipped and found shelter under a small rocky outcrop.
well, that had been one way to end the fight, and now that the right is letting up, and she has transformed back to her normal outfit, she's damp and muddy and walking slowly to the nearest bus stop. ]
[Every part of him aches after the last fight with the rangers. He can't wait for his day off tomorrow- he's going to need it. He's pretty sure he's actually bruised all around that flower tattoo of his, considering how hard that torso kick he got was and the subsequent punches. He (and his people in general) love a good fight, but the General has had enough for this week. For this month, maybe. He may decide to stand down any advances for a while.]
[He's in his human clothing as he approaches the bus stop, and there's a lone woman standing there, being soaked through by the rain. Once he gets closer, he clears his throat to get her attention, and lightly offers the umbrella he's carrying.]
[He has an overcoat, she doesn't. It makes logical sense. He may want to end humanity but... strangely enough, he doesn't like to see people suffer. She looks like whatever she went through was miserable.]
[ the rain is enough to make most people miserable, akane included. why couldn't magical girls have a special transportation system? like a flowing cloud or special winged shoes or something—instead she was relegated to the bus and this stranger who is now offering the umbrella.
her face heats up with embarrassment and she lifts her hands to wave him off. ]
Oh no, no I couldn't—you're going to get so wet in this rain and—I don't want that.
[ it was her fault for not bringing an umbrella to the bad guys fight, right? right. ]
[Other than for his hair, that's practically an umbrella for the rest of him. For now, he holds the umbrella so it's still mostly covering her. Politeness is appreciated, but he's used to slighter built humans on this planet being prone to colds.]
[Sure, it's no way to judge strength, but he's noticed enough patterns.]
[With the slightest huff of thought, he steps a little closer, he brings both hands up to the handle of the umbrella (so they're in observable range, no mistaking his intentions) and steps closer to her. Here the umbrella is big enough to protect them both.]
[He wishes he'd thought to buy that rain poncho earlier at the convenience store. Shows his lack of foresight. But right now she gets to benefit from catching some of the heat he's putting off, even if he's not exactly standing up against her, because it's such a stark contrast to the rain.]
[ now akane is giving him another look. the overcoat does look to be long and sturdy enough to withstand the rain but! but! she can't help but feel guilt crawl over and akane is about to make another excuse except—
—she doesn't get there because now both of them are under the umbrella which is big enough to keep them dryish. ] Oh! It's big enough for us both, that's good.
[ and isn't he weirdly warm? huh. akane leans in a little, just to be sure. maybe he has a cold already? but, no. he looks fine and everything. looking up at him she offers a polite smile. ] Thank you.
Were you taking a walk around here? It's nice on most days but there are reports of monsters recently, you shouldn't be out here on your own.
[He thought he'd walk home, but then the rain started. The advice about the monsters though? Adorable. Humans can be quaint and sweet sometimes. Like the girl at the convenience store who always recommends good ice cream. Some of the better ones are like that.]
I've seen them before. I just try to avoid trouble when I'm out.
[He's not sniffing or anything, definitely not sick as he watches for the bus to come. He's not lying in this case- when not assigned to fighting, he prefers not to. It's actually shocking that he's their strongest member when he doesn't make a point of constant practice like Trigger or Muller.]
What about you? [She's out here, despite worrying about others encountering monsters.]
[ the question is more than fair. what is she doing out here under the rain and without an umbrella or picnic basket or anything to cover up things? the magical girls are not like the rangers, their identities are intentionally secret.
her cheeks darken and she lies: ] I was...I was taking a walk to clear my head.
[ a white lie. but it isn't very much aligned with the code of magical girls, and she is now very much looking at her feet. ]
If you've seen them before why would you still come out here? What if you get hurt because no one is around to...fight them?
Humans can be monsters, too. And sometimes you need to buy groceries.
[He makes light of the situation, but for him it's true. He has to be hypervigilant so much of the time, that using it as an excuse to lock himself up at home will just make him both hypervigilant, tense, and miserable. He might as well go out, and try to forget.]
[Besides, wouldn't it help Rooney so much in his research if he could catch a monster. It wouldn't be as agreeable as C-018 was, that's for sure, but it'd give them an edge on other invaders.]
Has there really been that much activity in this area?
[He tips his chin up to look down the street, wet and reflecting streetlamps across the cement, waiting for the bus's headlights to show.]
[Maybe not for the reasons she wants. If there was yet another creature on Earth, they couldn't have it corrupting and ruining the planet. They needed it. So... Honestly, he'd be glad to have the distraction of removing rivals. It helps alleviate the thoughts that they're going to have to find some people to resume operations of some of Earth's amenities (in more logical, less wasteful ways).]
[Why did she particularly use the word 'nest' though? Maybe it should be nests they come looking for. Such a choice word.]
[He glances down at her, and leans to see the bus coming, which presses the warmth of his still-healing torso trapped under the fabric of his coat against her side.]
Sorry. [He says after the bump, and moves more around her to get that better look. And now that she's mentioned it, he's trying to key into sounds around him- but even if he heard something and went to investigate, there's a human here, one that's aware of him and where he might go, so he should ignore it until later.]
[ akane nods, satisfied that her words were taken to heart. she has no idea that this man doesn't need help or her protection at all, in fact she's still very much focused on her magical girl duties.
the bus is coming but—
there is something rustling in the trees behind them, not close enough to be immediate harm but enough that akane can't help but look behind her in thought.
...oh. ]
You should take this next bus! I'll...I'll wait for the next one.
[He hears it at about the same time. Something big rustling around the trees could either be, in the most mundane circumstances, a possibly threatening person or it could be something dangerous, like she mentioned.]
[But she doesn't want to go?]
[He looks at her with a little greater scrutiny than before. She seems to hear it, but she's opting to stay? Why?]
I'm not so sure that leaving you alone is a good idea. [He glances over there himself, his foot clicking against the cement under it as he adjusts his posture to take off if he needs to. To spring away if something comes barrelling out.]
[There's a promise to the idea, though. He is a man who loves peace, loves quiet, loves the respite after a day of struggle. But he's a man who loves blood between his chiselled fangs too, to bury his claws in a waiting body.]
[Honestly, maybe a normal human stalking a young girl is its own kind of undeserving creature, even if whatever is in there turns out not to be some sort of mysterious monster.]
