Pittsburgh Pride 2026 made history. Despite early concerns about reduced funding and sponsorships, this year's celebration drew more than 300,000 attendees throughout Pride weekend, making it one of the largest LGBTQ+ events ever held in the region. Pittsburgh Pride 2026 also set records for festival vendors and parade participation, with the largest number of registered marching contingents in the event's history. Even rain on Saturday couldn't stop the celebration, as thousands gathered across Downtown Pittsburgh and the North Side for performances, community programming, the Pride festival, and the annual parade. At a time when LGBTQ+ communities across the country continue to face political attacks and growing uncertainty, Pittsburgh showed up in force. This record-breaking turnout demonstrated the resilience, visibility, and strength of our community. What happens when trans artists create media for each other? In this When episode of Then to Now to When, we meet Calvin Ecker (he/him), creator of T4T Magazine, a collaborative zine project featuring visual art and writing from trans artists across the United States. Inspired by queer zine culture, archives, and the idea of “T4T” (trans for trans), Calvin created the magazine as a space where trans people could share stories, art, poetry, and creative work with one another on their own terms. What started as a simple Instagram account and an open Google form quickly became something much larger. “I wasn’t seeing a lot of media created by trans people for trans people.” From hand-arranging submissions on the floor of Hillman Library to publishing two full issues, T4T Magazine has grown into a collaborative archive of trans creativity, connection, and self-expression. Now, Calvin is preparing to open submissions for the third issue. This is When. What does it mean to transform a lifetime of experience into art? In this episode of From Then to Now to When, we spend time with Treasure Treasure (she/her) — a Pittsburgh-based performing artist, comic, composer, filmmaker, and multi-instrumentalist whose stage career spans more than three decades. Driving through the city together, Treasure reflects on her early years as a child actor working in New York City, navigating an intense professional world while also growing up as a trans kid without the language to fully understand her identity. Those experiences, along with the questions and frustrations they created, eventually became creative fuel. Treasure recently premiered her theatrical work “Agnus Teaches Acting” at The New Hazlett Theater, a piece that imagines an acting teacher who goes rogue and transforms class time into her own unexpected performance. Beyond the stage, Treasure’s debut EP HYPNEROTOMACHIA is available on all platforms and in rotation on 91.3 WYEP in Pittsburgh. Her short film exploring trans identity and school portraiture was recently exhibited at the August Wilson African American Cultural Center and received honorable mention in the 2nd Annual “Envisioning a Just Pittsburgh” Award, presented by the University of Pittsburgh and the Carnegie Museum of Art. Through theater, music, and film, Treasure continues to explore identity, freedom, and the power of creative expression. “I want to live. I want to explore. I want to learn. I want to grow.
