GOVERNING BODIES
APBA (American Power Boat Association)
The American Power Boat Association (APBA) is the national governing body for powerboat racing in the United States, established in 1903 and one of the oldest motorsport organizations in the world. The APBA sanctions hundreds of racing events annually across every discipline of competitive powerboat racing, from offshore and drag to oval and inshore circuit competition. As the official U.S. representative of the Union Internationale Motonautique, the APBA ensures every sanctioned event meets rigorous international standards for safety, officiating, and competition. Race World Offshore operates under full APBA sanction, meaning every RWO National Championship Series event adheres to the rules and technical regulations that have governed American powerboat racing for over a century.
UIM (Union Internationale Motonautique)
The Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) is the international governing body for all forms of powerboat sport, founded in Monaco in 1922 and officially recognized by the International Olympic Committee. With affiliated member nations across the globe, the UIM sets the technical and sporting regulations for world championship competition and works to develop and promote powerboat racing at every level. In March 2026, Race World Offshore and the UIM announced a landmark 10-year partnership establishing RWO as the official promoter of the UIM Offshore World Championship Series in North America, bringing full world championship status to the RWO race calendar. Teams competing in RWO events are now eligible to earn official UIM Class 1 and Class 2 Offshore World Championship titles, connecting North American racing to the pinnacle of international powerboat competition.
