schedule!

ImageThis is a lovely image of my "Flair" board on Facebook. I loved it so much I wanted to show it to you.

In other news, my school schedule is complete!

Here it is:
  1. Seminary
  2. Art Foundations/Interior Design Sewing
  3. Drawing and Painting/Printmaking
  4. Dance IIA/Rendering
  5. AP Psychology
  6. AP World History
  7. AP English 12
  8. Autocad/Internship at Design Unlimited
Its fun, huh? There are 3 AP Classes in there to keep Yale from thinking I slacked off my senior year, and the rest are very fun. I'm quite happy with it. :-)

secondhand serenade

...is a good band whose songs are currently riveted in my head!!

Anyways...today I applied to Seagull Book. Which has become my top choice and best bet at employment...yup. So pray for me to get it, because if I have to refill ice cream or say, "Would you like anything mixed in with that?" one more time, I will...[insert bad thing here].

I would also like to publicly state I HAVE QUIT TV, MOVIES, YOUTUBE, ETC FOR ONE MONTH. So help me out and don't tempt me!! Hmmm other news...Now I Can is super, Luke can almost walk on his own (remember that when he first came to Now I Can, he did not crawl). Cold Stone is... [insert word of choice meaning "crap" here]. Dance has been off for a week but will continue tomorrow. Friends are a thing of the past; I haven't hung out with anyone in a week (only because i've been very busy). We are putting pale wood laminate floors in our basement. I have finished two of my books about college applications.

Life is pretty good. :-)

definitely a nerd

Well, today I have realized I am pretty much a nerd. As in, I spend my summers reading books about how to get in to colleges. Not beach reads, per se. Also, a few days ago when I was bored, I found myself actually getting on to the group blog of my AP Literature class (which hasn't actually started yet), and reading analyses of Cry, The Beloved Country. In my spare time. I am quite astonishingly nerdy sometimes.

But I counteract it with my...eclectic...personality. Or that is what I like to think.

I've applied for a job at The Disney Store, Pac Sun, and Forever 21. I hope I get one of them, because I am officially SO sick of Cold Stone. And getting paid the near-lowest hourly wage in the tri-state radius. Woot woot.

outfit of the day-summer lunch

Here we have a middle-of-the day Summer outfit. Its totally clear and sunny, and about 95 degrees.

Image
This light, billowy, ruffly blouse is certain to keep you cool and collected.

Image
Put this bright ribbed tee under the blouse to preserve decency and add a brilliant pop of yellow.

Image
Skinny white bermuda shorts add a bit of structure.

Image
I couldn't pass up red patent flats like this WITH A MOUSE FACE!! but I was torn between these and this...
Image
pretty flowered option that pulls all the colors together and dresses it up a bit.

Image
This outfit was crying out for a fun patterned bag. If you choose the red shoes, go with this white color, if the patterned, go with pink.

ENJOY!

knackered

It is about a bajillion degrees on this fine summer day, and it is a great day.

I got to work with the man in my life, Luke (he's 3, don't get any ideas), this morning. It was gut, gut, gut like ze germans do. I luuurve Now I Can. Go and volunteer there. Now.

Now I am going to tap into my not-so-inner design goddess and give you a marvy outfit-of-the-day. How I wish I could buy all my outfits-of-the-day. They are really so shockingly amazing.

Coming soon!!

"wuke"!

I've begun volunteering at Now I Can Center for Intensive Therapy. It is a place where mostly children with neurological disorders go to learn basic skills such as crawling, walking, and becoming more self-sufficient and able to do things on their own. Right now I'm working with Luke, a bright, adorable three-year-old who was born with his cerebellum fused to his brain stem. A scary brain surgery later, Luke lost some of the paralysis he had from the waist down and has since been at Now I Can to learn to use his lower body. When he first came, he didn't crawl but rather dragged his lower half along with his hands in fists. Now, he's learning to walk!

Luke is a pretty normal kid aside from his disability; he's a bit slow with speech--he has trouble with L's, that sort of thing--and he's the most rewarding kid to work with. He is so willing to work hard for so long and will tolerate all kinds of unpleasantness with a smile. Therapy is 3 hours long, a very long time for any 3 year old kid, but he's SO good about it.

I adore working with him. It'd be hard for anyone to resist falling in love with the optimistic, curly-haired toddler with an infectious laugh and a ridiculously cute smile. Pictures and videos to come!

movie review: batman, the dark knight

Movie Title: The Dark Knight

Starring Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Gary Oldman, Michael Cain, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Morgan Freeman

Rated PG13 for graphic violence and language

** (2 stars out of 5)

Last night was the premiere of the second Batman movie titled "The Dark Knight". I saw it at 12:06 a.m. It was roughly 2 and a half hours long.

I did not like it. I am not really a dark-scary-movie person. In fact, I'm really not a dark-scary-movie person. I like happy movies, movies that make me laugh, Disney movies, and children's animated films. Why did I even go to Batman? I do not know. However, I can try to analyze it objectively and tell you how the movie was without spoiling it.

The plot line is about average. It doesn't have any crazy or unexpected twists, its just the usual Batman against Joker routine. The Joker is creepy, scary, evil as ever. Batman/Bruce Wayne is as heroic, attractive, self-sacrificing as he always is. It is very quick-moving, but it is quite a long movie and you will notice that it is long. There are no "happy parts". The entire movie is shrouded in night, darkness. I suppose you should've been able to tell that from the title...and boy, it lives up to its name. There are the occasional "deep quotes" from Batman's faithful advisors Alfred, Lucius, and Gordon, such as "The night is always darkest just before the dawn" and that sort of thing. In the end, its good as a hero movie. But I couldn't stand the inherent darkness of it.

It is also extremely sad. The casualty list is high...and sometimes the good guys die. There is a distinct lack of romance, which I don't necessarily mind but which can life the heaviness of such a movie. In this case, there was no lift, no relief from the hefty subject matter.

I think that's basically it. There you have it. Watch it at your own risk.

volunteering

I have begun my volunteer work. Yay.

I am volunteering at Now I Can Center for Intensive Therapy, beginning tomorrow. I think it'll be good. I hope it'll be good. I'm working less next week so I am going to take on more.

I am also waiting to hear back from Timpanogos Regional Hospital. They may have me man the main desk Mondays from 5-8pm.

Its going to be good.

Yess.

college applications have consumed my life

Image

That is correct. They have CONSUMED. My life. As in, eaten it. As in, I have currently in my possession 6 books on... writing college application essays (1), creating great applications (2), getting financial aid (2), and choosing the best college (1).

I am guilty of obsession!

forward to the future

My AP test scores have arrived.

I am disappointed with my 4 on AP English Lang/Comp, 3 on AP Gov and "*96 Not Yet Finished-Will Arrive Within 3 Weeks" on AP French.

Sigh.

If you didn't know, my dream is to attend Yale College to study english, art, anthropology, and architecture. However, my transcript is less than incredible and these tests scores are only moderately good, so I'm having to re-think some things.

Washington State seems a good candidate, as does Amherst, so I do have some secondary options. Of course there is always BYU as well. Which may well be my choice.

I have purchased books on getting into college and writing college essays. They are good, but stress me out. Its not turning out to be such a restful summer. Alas!

Its a...its not a good day. I wish I could go back to bed and start today over.

But oh well. Such is life!

mystery matt

Image

Who? Why? What?

Oh and "Matt", if you're reading these, I have some pointers for you.
1. Add your last name. I do, after all, know multiple "matt"s, and there are probably thousands of secret admirers out there who are named Matt that I don't actually know. Just kidding. Almost.
2. You picked my favorite frosting, but you struck out on the actual "cupcake" material. The way to my heart is CHOCOLATE.
3. I don't mind a "love, matt" when I'm getting gifts from boys. I'm afraid you were cheated out of first place by a "Love, Matt" when I got a plate of cookies. Although that Matt brought the cookies himself. So I saw his face. And knew who he was.

Its a mystery!!

adorable soaps

Image

I love shopping Etsy for stuff. They are just really really cool. My "finds of the day" are these soaps from Annie's Powder Room. They are ADORABLE and I want them all. And, at 2.75 each, they are a bit pricey for soap, but not horrifyingly.

Image

Here we have some S'mores soaps. They are not only ridiculously cute, they smell good and are good for your skin. These are, however, slightly pricey at $4.50. Check out the seller's other wares, they have many deliciously scented options, like creme brulee, chocolate chip cookie, and lemon chiffon.
