Siri shortcut to resize image, strip metadata, and post to Dreamwidth (requires iOS 12):
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/871679d5c94940599cdaac59105e90ee

Edited to improve the setup instructions, and to more easily specify the icon, tags, and current mood while posting.

Please feel free to share and leave any feedback in the comments. (Note: I’m currently working on a way to add alt text within the shortcut.)

I saved up enough paperwork so I can work from home today. Until now, I’ve been going into the lab, being an essential employee who generally can’t work remotely.

If anyone has any forensic DNA-related questions, I’d be happy to try any answer them.

Took the opportunity to organize my kittens before getting started.

Somehow, last November, I managed to pinch a nerve so badly that my left arm is frequently numb and the shoulder hurts constantly. C5/C6 cervical radiculpathy is the official diagnosis, and PT helped somewhat, but mostly I'm doing yoga and upper body stretching as many times a day as I can manage.

With luck, I'll be (almost) as bendy as Anders here by the time the weather turns to spring.

When selecting the optimal location for your Sunday afternoon nap, consider this: if they can't see you, they can't wake you.

Testing a shortcut for resizing photos and posting via email. Please enjoy this serotonin molecule decorated for the holidays.

Anyone have an Apple device running iOS 12 and have post-by-email set up? I'd love to have feedback:

Well, it's certainly been far, far, far too long since I've made use of my Dreamwidth account. It's time to change that!

Things I am likely to ramble on about:
* Sciency-stuff
* Cats
* Video games
* All the nifty adventures I have with my wife, @rahaeli
* My cats
* Old-school slash fandoms
* Cooking
* Knitting, sewing, and other crafty goodness
* I also have really cute cats

Please feel free to add me to your circle if any of the above appeal to you!

I flew a plane today! For, like, ninety seconds! Mark took us on a sightseeing flight around Mt St Helens and Portland. I reported this to my family (after I landed, because I've met my mother), and this was my father's response:

Hey, everyone. Long time no see! I've been very hermetic this past year, but some health improvements mean I'm actually feeling capable of social interaction again:

1) Apparently, you need to breathe while you sleep, if the sleep is going to do any good. Yeah, this is stating the obvious. Being as stubborn as I am, though, I required a ton of badgering from D to admit I needed to take care of this problem.

A couple months ago, I did an at-home sleep study, and as a result, I've had my very own CPAP machine for about six weeks now. I love it! Well, I tolerate it, but I love how I'm actually getting restful sleep.

Turns out I wasn't just tired all the time, I was freaking exhausted. It's amazing the difference between the two, but I guess it'd gotten so bad over such a period of time that I hadn't realized.

2) Back in February, I switched to eating paelo-ish (I include whole fat dairy). I'm not strict about it or anything, but I cut back dramatically on the processed foods, grains, and sugars, and have been trying to focus on nutrient-dense foods. I really enjoy this way of eating: I'm no longer hungry all time, I get hangry far less frequently, and I've been cooking a lot more, which I find relaxing.

3) I've also found a good primary care doc and discovered that a low dose of fluoxetine does wonders in calming my anxiety. It's like it sedates the chittering brain weasels long enough for me to put some CBT tricks into practice, and calm the hell down.

So, basically, meds + good food + good sleep = actual functional human being. \o/ Which means you'll be seeing more of me around here.
