phosh 0.52.0 is out ๐Ÿš€๐Ÿ“ฑ:

There's some important ๐Ÿ› fixes and some user visible improvements - maybe a bit less than usual as the end of the year got a bit busy and we decided to rather not rush things in.

Check out the full release notes at https://phosh.mobi/releases/rel-0.52.0/ for details or see ๐Ÿ‘‡ for a short ๐Ÿงต

Hello ๐ŸŒ ! This is #phosh's new fediverse presence. It'll have phosh's release announcements and posts/boosts of related projects. Looking forward to an interesting and bright Linux mobile future ๐Ÿ“ฑ :phosh: .

Many thanks to fosstodon for hosting us for so long!

We've just merged some code to automatically scale up the on screen keyboard in landscape on larger screens like tablets also allowing it to use more horizontal space.

While at that we also added the necessary bits to scale up font and icons on the keyboard's keys accordingly which also helps on phones when going to higher resolutions.

There's still some low hanging improvements like scaling down in landscape on phones or improving the touch area for the shortcuts and completion bars. Let us know if you want to help with that!

One thing bothering us when playing videos with our little, mobile friendly video player #livi was that playing from video sites like #peeretube or #youtube showed very little information in #phosh's media player widget. This is now fixed on Livi's main branch where it fetches the necessary bits from #ytdlp to display a thumbnail and artist information making it a better companion to the pipeline app too.
We've improved a bunch of other things like faster seeking as well.

New year, new release candidate!

We've tagged #Phosh 0.52~rc1 together with #feedbackd 0.8.8, gmobile #0.6.0 and #pfs 0.0.6 . pfs now ships a simple example file selector app, excuse the logo but we were thinking about a mobile file cabinet:

Which of these on screen keyboard features would you have expected to be enabled by default in #Phosh (see follow up posts for more details on each feature):

While you can configure the alarm clock sound in #Phosh the default isn't great atm (it's the fallback from the freedesktop.org sound theme).

If you're into ๐ŸŽต music / sound design and want to provide us with a good morning wake up sound ๐Ÿ˜ด please join us on Matrix at https://matrix.to/#/#phosh:phosh.mobi .

The sounds we ship in sound-theme-phosh are usually also used by distributions like @postmarketOS, , @mobian and others so this would make a real difference for our daily driving users.

A often requested feature was the ability to change brightness on the lockscreen without having to pull down the settings menu. This can be useful in changing ambient conditions when not using automatic brightness. #Phosh 0.52 will have a two finger swipe gesture for that:
