"Cartwheels" is the debut single by Soft Launch. It was released on 2 April 2024 via Parlophone Records, under exclusive license from Good Form Recordings Limited.

Background[]

"Cartwheels" was written over the course of 3 days in the summer of 2023. It quickly became clear to the band that it would be their debut single, as it was "a big punch in the face" and could set the stage for their future releases.[1]

Prior to the official debut of Soft Launch, "Cartwheels" was performed at a handful of early concerts. On 18 January 2024, the song's demo was uploaded to YouTube as an unlisted video,[2] which could later be found through a secret website.[3] A snippet was also eventually used in a public post on 11 March.[4]

The song was officially announced as Soft Launch's debut single on 22 March 2024.[5] It premiered on BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds on 2 April 2024, presented by Declan McKenna.[6]

Lyrics[]

[Verse 1]
No badness, I swear you're my favourite
Wee rascal
You're so entertaining
Well I'm past it
I slept half an hour last night, it's tragic

[Chorus]
Cartwheels at the side of my bed
At the side of my bed
I could tell ya how the wall feels
'Cause you're wrecking my head
And you're crushing my legs
I could kill you in the morning
But there's no bad blood
'Cause you look too good
Got me spilling my coffee
I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm in over my-

[Verse 2]
I think I get the irony
Seeing the sun
Wrapped in Egyptian sheets
It really isn't lost on me
Well nothing is
Except a good night's sleep
I think I get the irony
Seeing the sun
Wrapped in Egyptian sheets
I bought them all in TK Maxx
I got a mind to take them back

[Chorus]
Cartwheels at the side of my bed
At the side of my bed
I could tell ya how the wall feels
'cause you're wrecking my head
And you're crushing my legs
I could kill you in the morning
But there's no bad blood
'Cause you look too good
Got me spilling my coffee
I'm in over my head
I'm in over my head
I'm in over my-
