Definitions:

Discrimination: unequal or unfair treatment of individuals or groups of individuals on the basis of traits including but not limited to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, religion, social class, economic status, veteran status.

Hackers: participants at SproutHacks.

Hacking: the act of participating in a hackathon. Note that any misuse of devices like computers, smartphones, tablets, and networks to cause damage to or corrupt systems, gather information on users, steal data and documents, or disrupt data-related activity is strictly prohibited.

Harassment: behaviour causing the discomfort of an individual or group of individuals.

Expected Behaviour

Respect: show respect to any and all individuals present on the premises at SproutHacks, including but not limited to hackers, organizers, volunteers, sponsors, or students passing through the venue. Any harassing behaviour is prohibited. Additionally, show respect to all physical property present at the event. Do not vandalize, damage, or steal any property that does not belong to you, including but not limited to venue property, event materials, or hacker belongings.

Inclusivity: every participant at SproutHacks should feel valued and welcomed, no matter their background. Any discriminatory behaviour is strictly prohibited at SproutHacks.

Collaboration: the goal of this hackathon is not only to foster a competitive, innovative environment, but also to help all participants grow together. Be mindful that many hackers may be new to coding or hacking.

Safety: for the safety of all involved, participants are prohibited from any form of physical harassment or physically harmful behaviour. Contraband, which includes but is not limited to weapons, knives, explosives, and drugs, is not permitted at SproutHacks.

Cheating

Any act of cheating at SproutHacks will not be tolerated. Any project that:

  • Is not wholly created during the hacking period

  • Re-uses work from other projects

  • Plagiarizes the concepts of other projects

will not be eligible to participate in the hackathon, and will be in violation of our code of conduct.

Penalties

SproutHacks reserves the right to penalize, with or without warning, any participant who is judged to be in violation of our code of conduct by organizers or volunteers. Penalties may include:

  • Ineligibility to submit a project, or win prizes

  • Removal from the premises

  • A temporary or permanent ban from any SproutHacks events, including current or future events
