The Roundhouse Museum​

Our working museum is home to over 20 of the historic steam and diesel engines that make up the Statfold Collection. With 2 levels of museum you will find a mixture of both static and active locomotive displays from different manufacturers around the world!

As you enter our museum you will be able to walk along our turntable before exploring the tracks that branch out to our locomotives where you will find a selection of interactive videos and information boards to learn all about the history of our fantastic collection!

  • Like several Bagnall design, Isibutu has a marine-type firebox, requiring a different firing technique

  • Isaac was sent to South Africa in 1953 where it was used to haul platinum ore from the mines to the reduction plant and returned to the UK in 1982

  • Appropriate to its use in mineral -related activity,
  • Liassic gets it’s name from the geological period.

Harrogate

  • Harrogate acquired its name by being created for the Harrogate Gas Works Railway

  • Acquired from the Sragi sugar mill on the island of Java in Indonesia

  • Works number and build date 5292 of 1909
  • K1 is a compound, meaning that the exhaust steam from the high pressure cylinders is then reused by the low pressure cylinders
  • Whilst in Tasmania the locomotive was reported to be able to haul 70 tons up steep gradients
  • Joined the Statfold Collection in 2019 Festiniog Railway

Saccharine

  • 2-foot gauge
  • Built by John Fowler (Leeds)
  • Wheel arrangement 0-4-2T
  • Works number and build date 13355 of 1912
  • In 1915, when working in Durban (South Africa), Saccharine was derailed and fell over a precipice , rolling over 70 yards down a steep embankment. Remarkably, the locomotive remained practically unscathed.

Sragi No.14 (Max)

  • Works number and build date 10750 of 1923
  • Max was working at the Sragi Sugar Mill on the island of Java as late as the early 21st Century
  • While working at Java’s sugar mill, firewood or bagasse (sugar cane waste) was used as the primary fuel choice

Ryam Sugar No.1

  • 2-foot gauge
  • Built by Davenport (Iowa, USA)
  • Wheel arrangement 0-4-0
  • Works number and build date 1586 of 1917
  • It was uncommon for US locomotives to be supplied to India during
  • British Rule. However, focus of the War Office due to the First World War
  • Joined the Statfold Collection in 2013

Roger ISC No.2

Roger ISC No.2

  • 2-foot gauge
  • Built by Kerr Stuart (Stoke-on-Trent)
  • Wheel arrangement 0-4-0ST
  • Works number and build date 3128 of 1918
  • Standard example of the ‘Wren’ class, with an open cab and a full height chimney
  • Roger worked at the National Smelting Company’s zinc refinery at Avonmouth from 1918
  • Joined the Statfold Collection in 2016

Jatibarang No.9

  • Built by Arnold Jung (Kirchen, Germany)
  • Wheel arrangement 0-4-4-0T+T
  • Works number and build date 4878 of 1930
  • No.9 is a ‘Mallet’ articulated locomotive, understood to be the last
  • Mallet built in Germany and the most powerful 2’-0/600mm gauge example ever built

  • From 1965 to 2010, Marchlyn was a static exhibit at Lake Winnepesaukah Amusement Park in Rossville, Georgia, USA
