The Outer Work Project is calling to all of us who care about healing, our communities and changing the violence in our world. It is building a bridge between healing and social action that we need.

It is a whole other kind of healing that happens when we can move beyond individual therapy and step into the 'Bigger We.' The Outer Work Project is the first program I've seen that successfully blends healing wisdom with social change expertise, and it is emerging at a critical moment in history. These four teachers are providing our community with a vital roadmap for us to stop adapting to a broken system and start transforming it.

Inner work is always necessary — but it leaves you at the level of the individual so can still leave you isolated. It still leaves you thinking that you're this discrete creature in a disconnected universe. It does nothing to address the social causes that drive so much mental distress and mental afflictions.

The Outer Work Project offers a powerful bridge between inner healing and collective action—an integration that is deeply aligned with trauma-informed practice. This kind of work is essential for translating personal insight into meaningful, embodied engagement with the world.

The Outer Work Project is urgently needed. It invites us to come together across our areas of activism and change on behalf of a larger collective offering. It is a unique wave of interdependent action and love commensurate with the challenges before us. All of us who have dedicated our lives to transformational leadership, high impact organizations and a restorative wave of healing have been preparing for this time. Through this initiative we will all have a chance to connect adaptive visionary practices with pragmatic tools and to meet others as passionate and committed as we are to standing for a better world.

The Outer Work Project is a notion whose idea has come. This is a unique and powerful opportunity in this challenging time of upheaval for those who are on a path of awakening in their personal lives to broaden their impact in awakening social equity and environmental justice.

Sometimes I hear people talk about individual personal healing as somehow in tension or opposition to organized social change and I don’t see it that way. All of us live in an ecology. We’re influenced by our families, our neighbourhoods, the economy, the politics, the laws — it shapes us and it shapes our trauma. When we understand how these are interconnected we realise we can’t do one without the other. Organized social change creates the conditions for us to heal ourselves, our families, and our communities.

Both healing and social change movements have given me permission to yearn — for my calling, for what I want for current and future generations, for interdependence. Both have guided me in being willing to risk, learn and be courageous. The Outer Work Project is an invitation to make a bigger difference. To bring your resilience and healing with you into social change movements. To build a future of equity, relationship to the planet, a governing that holds care as its guide. We are needed, and now is the time.
