Hey PhD admissions committee members - not so random story tonight: NFL recruiters thought Tom Brady had "bad stats" -he barely got drafted (~200 players drafted before him) Moral of the story: Maybe take a chance and admit an "imperfect" applicant this year 🤷🏼‍♂️

Likely unpopular opinion on #EconTwitter : Econ PhD programs should require one semester covering the history of economic thought. Some space to exclusively cover ideas💡 Maybe review every Nobel prize? Maybe half a semester with easy readings like "The Worldly Philosophers"?

First paper I ever read and it blew my mind as an undergrad in Chile. Simple model of behavior and empirical strategy to then produce relevant policy insight : hooked day one and I am sure 1000s in econ today share a similar experience. Research can be powerful like that.

In one example David Card – awarded the 2021 prize in economic sciences – and Alan Krueger (now deceased) used a natural experiment to investigate how increased minimum wages affect employment. #NobelPrize

Random stuff happens when you can leave your house. Met John Nash briefly at my first faculty reception at @PrincetonEcon Introduced myself to John as his "newest colleague" as we were in line for food - and then proceeded to ask if I could take a selfie (playing it cool😅)

Now that a lot of top universities will have most, if not all classes developed and prepared for online distribution, what is stopping them from giving access to students from developing countries as MIT and a few others have done with a subset of classes already?

Happy for the Nobel winners and excited for Labor and Applied Metrics getting the Nobel - but can't help but have Alan Krueger on my mind this morning.
