UAII has partnered with nationally recognized Indigenous educator and facilitator Thosh Collins to launch a monthly Indigenous Men’s Healing Circle focused on identity, wellness, leadership, sobriety, cultural responsibility, and connection. Through guided discussions, movement, ceremony, and reflection, participants will build community while supporting personal growth and healing.

We extend our sincere gratitude for welcoming Shane Holuby, Tribal Administrator of the Mvskoke Nation, who joined UAII’s Child and Family Tribal Services team at the Los Angeles Dependency Court to observe ICWA proceedings, followed by a visit to learn more about the services offered at United American Indian Involvement. We are grateful for the opportunity to share our work and discuss the challenges faced by Urban Native families throughout Los Angeles and Orange Counties. We look forward to strengthening our relationship and exploring future partnerships that enhance services for our community.
Today, we honor the many journeys of motherhood in our communities. The women grieving, healing, remembering, nurturing, rebuilding, protecting, and carrying generations forward with resilience and care. Walking in remembrance, moving in purpose. 🤍
Our MMIP walk from UAII to Echo Park and back brought together staff and elders in a caring space of reflection, prayer, and connection. Each step carried intention, honoring our relatives and the responsibility we carry to uplift this movement.
After the walk, we gathered for a shared lunch and handcraft activity, creating space for healing and community.
Grounded in our roots and guided by our ancestors, we continue to remember and remain together in strength. ❤️🩹✊🏽
May 5 is MMIP Awareness Day, but this is something our communities carry every single day. Behind every number is a relative, a story, and a life that deserves to be seen, protected, and remembered. Too many cases go unheard, unreported, or ignored, and that silence is part of the problem.
In LA and across Native communities, we know this is not just a statistic. It’s personal. It’s our families, our friends, our future generations. Staying informed, speaking up, and looking out for one another is how we begin to create safer spaces for our people.
Our communities have always known that wellness is balance. Mind, body, and spirit all deserve attention, even in the middle of busy LA days.

United American Indian Involvement, Inc. welcomes Dr. Hilda Sandoval as incoming Executive Director of Health Services.
Dr. Sandoval brings extensive experience leading multi-million dollar behavioral health programs, advancing integrated care models, and developing nationally recognized public health campaigns focused on equity and access.
Her work has consistently centered communities most impacted by health disparities, while elevating lived experience and cultural knowledge as essential to care.
At UAII, she will continue strengthening systems that support long-term wellness for our Native and Indigenous relatives across Los Angeles.
