The Void Ark was transporting a million prisoners through the derelict spaceships and myriad dangers of the Sargasso Nebula when it suddenly broke down. It was then raided by pirates and all of its employees were terminated. By the time the ship re-stabilized, it no longer had the necessary bureaucratic authorization to warp itself back to civilized space.
Now, B.A.C.S., the onboard A.I., is rehydrating the Dehydrated inmates as "Clients", one at a time, in order to 'requisition' parts, materials and tools on the drifting derelicts, which are needed to build machines that can restore the Clients' citizenship and re-authorize the use of the ship's FTL drive.
