WERU is Currently Operating at Low-power

WERU is Currently Operating at Low-power

May 27, 2026

Due to maintenance work we are performing on our main transmitter at the base of the communications tower on Blue Hill Mountain, and due to work at the top of the tower by a cell phone company, we are currently operating at low-power on our back-up transmitter, and could be doing so for several more days. We are sorry about any interruptions that you may be experiencing with your WERU listening, and we thank you for your patience, especially if you are a distance away from Blue Hill and on the edge of our signal area. If you are able, we encourage you to listen online here on our website or on our mobile app, and check back in here occasionally for updates. Thank you!

Listen to the Election Security Forum Held on May 15

May 9, 2026

A Forum on Election Security was held Friday, May 15, at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Blue Hill. This event was organized by the bipartisan Blue Hill Constitution Committee and sponsored by WERU Community Radio.

To discuss questions surrounding elections – voter ID, hacking voting equipment, and intimidation at the polls — panelists with first-hand knowledge of Maine elections were invited. Your vote counts and our elections matter immensely, so we also invite you to join us. Confirmed participants are Shenna Bellows, Maine’s Secretary of State; Cindy Reilly, former 32-year Sedgwick Town Clerk; Holly Idelson, Policy Strategist with Protect Democracy, and former Senior Counsel for the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee; and Ann Luther, League of Women Voters and host of Democracy Forum on WERU was our moderator. WERU extends special thanks to the Blue Hill Constitution Committee for all their work planning and coordinating this informative community event!

Thanks to the Belfast Community Co-op for Supporting WERU!

Thanks to the Belfast Community Co-op for Supporting WERU!

May 4, 2026

WERU is very happy to have been the April recipient of Common Cents at the Belfast Community Co-op. Common Cents is the check-out donation program where Co-op shoppers can round up their purchases to the next dollar (or more) to support local nonprofits. $6,674.94 was raised for the station thanks to so many generous people who took advantage of a really easy way to support community radio! Thank you for rounding up, and thank you to everyone at the Belfast Community Co-op for selecting WERU to be part of this year’s Common Cents!

Bagaduce Music on WERU

May 1, 2026

Wednesday, May 6 was unofficially “Bagaduce Music All Stars Day” at WERU, as a few musicians from Bagaduce Music in Blue Hill performed live in WERU’s on-air studio. First at 9 am we welcomed Bennett Konesni (Executive Director & Teaching Staff) and Annadeene Konesni-Fowler (Concert & Events Coordinator) to The Rhythm Ranch with Jay Peterson. Then, at noon, Mia Bertelli (Teaching Staff) and Benjamin Foss (Teaching Staff) joined Blubird Daaze and Pepin Mittelhauser for On the Wing. Hear recordings of those performances by clicking below. Thanks to our musical friends for joining us on WERU, and thanks to our listeners who support this kind of programming with their donations. Give now! Thanks!

Volunteer Profile: Joana Chacón de Entwisle

April 27, 2026

Volunteer DJ K y La Joanita is one of five rotating hosts on WERU’s jubilant music show Sabor Latino, heard 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday evenings. Starting in February 2025, she’s the show’s newest member, so maybe you haven’t yet had a chance to catch her special brand of DJing, but I’ll bet you may have heard her speak on show promos talking about how Sabor Latino inspires her whole family to dance together in the kitchen! Like many WERU volunteer DJs, music and dancing permeate and perfume her world, go deep, and trace back to her family and its influences. When we reached out to ask about sharing her profile with the WERU family, she was thrilled to give her listeners some insight into inspiration for her music programming and her historical and cultural roots. Here’s K y La Joanita in her own words:
