The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has saved the national coffers GH₵5.7billion in the now cancelled Strategic Mobilisation GhanaLimited (SML) contract deal and seized assets in other corruption cases.
Some critics had questioned why the OSP chose to make its probe into the NDC primary public, while it did not immediately issue a similar announcement regarding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary held on January 31.
“Consequently, the OSP has opened further investigation into the assault of an authorised officer of the OSP in the performance of his functions in relation to MohammedBabaJamal Ahmed,” it said.
The controversial bill, introduced on December 8, 2025, by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga and MajorityChief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, cited operational challenges, duplication of functions, and high costs as reasons to abolish the OSP.
According to the OSP, the intervention is estimated to have saved the state about GH¢345 million ... The July 2025 to December 31, 2025 Half Yearly Report of the OSP was released on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
