Our Story
The Making of Dartfish
1997
How It All Started
In 1997, after extensive research in image and video processing, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (Switzerland) developed the SimulCam™ technology.
The technology met with considerable success from TV producers and sports viewers. Therefore, five international business and IT specialists founded InMotion Technologies Ltd. in December 1998 to commercially develop SimulCam™ and other digital imaging applications.
The small start-up quickly grew and became well-known for its innovative digital image enhancements in the sports broadcast world.
SimulCam™ technology was followed by StroMotion™ which was launched in January 2001.
Based on its technological know-how, Dartfish soon branched out into other growth areas such as software for Sports Performance analysis and improvements.
2008
Dartfish TV
In 2008, straight after the creation of YouTube and Dailymotion (2005), Dartfish created the first Private Video Platform dedicated to sport performance analysis. In total, Dartfish TV has reached more 70 Million of views, for more than 1 Million videos stored and used by more than 6 Million Sport performance users.
2012
Mobile Apps
In 2012, with the raising of iPhone (launched in 2007) and of iPad (2010), the spreading of the volume of Application and the features proposed by those devices led Dartfish to also propose several mobile applications. In total, it is about 1M applications that have been downloaded worldwide.
The combination of the Dartfish app + Dartfish TV (cloud video platform) + Dartfish Software is offering a unique environment to increase content circulation and help best Sport Performance professionals to improve their work to excellence. (Success is all about team work).
2019
Always Being at the Cutting Edge of Technology
Dartfish has been a pioneer in providing video replay solutions for individual and combat sports since its early days, supporting judges and referees in delivering fair and accurate decisions on athletes’ performances. In 2023, Dartfish leveraged its extensive experience in video replay for international competitions to develop a dedicated solution tailored to the specific needs of team sports.
Today, sports such as handball, floorball, and baseball/softball regularly rely on Dartfish to enhance fairness at both national and international levels. For football, the Dartfish VAR System received official FIFA certification in August 2023, establishing Dartfish as a recognized player in the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) ecosystem.
Today, Dartfish employs more than 70 people in its offices in the USA, France, Germany, Brazil and, obviously in Switzerland where it is headquartered.

Since 1997, our mission has remained clear: to empower performance through video analysis. In 2025, Dartfish introduced a new logo — a fresh visual identity that carries forward the same vision and commitment.
