My exploration of Kansas City's shockingly steep but hardly known postwar population loss, now updated and moved to Substack. Link in first reply.

It took until my very last day here, but as of this morning I have run every single street of the nation's capital. All 1,838 of them

Stephen A. Smith to Hannity: "I know you're not talking about someone being lucid and cogent and enunciating their thoughts with clarity and you're bragging about Donald Trump. We can't be watching the same stuff if that's what you're doing!"

The more I push around a baby in a stroller the more I think the push for the ADA and disabled rights generally was the most underrated civil rights movement

I just wanna live somewhere I can get a cute little apartment and be able to walk to a grocery store, park, church, and rapid transit station. 100 years ago that was standard in every American city. Today, it’s a luxury experience that costs $2000+/mo

The biggest irony in transportation policy in this country is most cities requiring that bars provide enough parking for all their patrons to drive

This tiny triangle of land will soon be home to 115 affordable homes. No, your city is not 'full'

Kinda agree with this. If jobs for college educated 20 somethings actually start to dry up there's gonna be a huge upswell of resentment against the 'you will work in a factory and be happy about it' politics that the right is leaning into with tariffs right now

i think that we’re going to see a pretty strong sort of reaction to the fact our politics has been focused on white working class people in the midwest for a decade. and i think college graduates are going to be super super into it.

Are you young (20s-30s), relatively unattached, decent income? The #1 thing you can do for the climate is move to a walkable neighborhood and drive less

Cars are too big. Their headlights are too bright. The screens in them are too distracting. All are new problems in the last ~15 years or so, but regulators don't seem particularly interested in solving any of them
