    I am pleased to announce that our brave @AACOPD Detectives Scott Ballard and Ian Preece are out of surgery and taking the first steps on the road to recovery. Their families are with them and making sure they have support. Let’s all continue to send positive thoughts their way!

    I hoped we were done with government mandates in our response to COVID, but the current rate of spread and hospitalization is not sustainable, for our hospitals, our schools, our public safety agencies, or our businesses. Masks slow the spread, and it’s time to put them back on.

    On Saturday, First Lady Yumi Hogan and I stood on the tarmac at @BWI_Airport to welcome the first ever Korean Air passenger plane, carrying a very important payload of LabGun #COVID19 test kits which will give MD the capability of performing half a million coronavirus tests.

    Today we made the difficult decision to keep #AnneArundel at Stage 2. Unfortunately, cases in our county are increasing right now and recent experience shows clearly that if we increase activity, our rate of spread will accelerate more. We can't risk that.aacounty.org/news-and-event…

    I am saddened to learn this evening from @MDHealthDept that #AnneArundel has suffered our first death from COVID-19 - a county resident in his 80's. We don’t yet know who he is, but we know that he is one of us. We want his family to know that we are there for them.

    In consultation with @RecParks I have decided to waive all fees to our county parks beginning March 16. Our parks are remaining open, and are now accessible for everyone to enjoy during this time when open space is needed.

    Today, I signed an executive order to close all private and community playgrounds in #AnneArundel. We closed county playgrounds last week, but are receiving reports that people are still congregating on neighborhood playgrounds. We must keep our children safe and #SlowtheSpread.

    Anne Arundel County is a better place because of Speaker Mike Busch. He left us with buildings and parks where our people come together as community, and he led us with a humility and compassion that reminds us what matters in life.
