Rahm’s Alderman here. 👋🏼 Also the guy who helped write the consent decree after the murder of Laquan McDonald.
Chicagoans already retired Rahm. Let’s keep it that way.
Good morning. Today, Chicago City Council could’ve finally passed civilian oversight of the police.
But the Mayor requested our meeting be cancelled, bc she prefers an ordinance that maintains more mayoral control over CPD.
No more rubber stamp. Strong civilian oversight now.
They say budgets are statements of values. Here is how Chicago spent federal CARES Act funds so far:
🚔 25% on personnel costs for police
🏠 2% on emergency rental assistance
👩🏽🍳 3% on small business grants and loans
💻 .5% on broadband for low income families
In 2015, Washington, D.C. moved its teen curfew up an hour. That change increased gun incidents by 150%.
Now, Chicago looks to approve a similar change — even though the City says they have not considered data linking the policy to an increase in violence.
The Chicago Board of Education will vote tomorrow on whether to remove CPD from our public schools. I'll be speaking in favor of this proposal.

Why is the CTA struggling to hire when NYC, DC, and SF have met or exceeded their pre-pandemic staffing levels?
Current leadership is failing Chicago riders.
Mayor Johnson and Governor Pritzker should appoint a new board and a new president should lead the CTA to recovery. (3)
THREAD
Today, we learned that nearly $300M of CARES funds in Chicago were spent on personnel costs in the police department.
Since these funds are meant to meet the unprecedented needs in our communities, I want to share what needs I see are unmet in our community right now /1
Chicago is the only city in Illinois that can't by law elect our school board. Our state legislators could vote to change that this week.
Give 'em a ring and let them know we need an elected school board now ☎️ #ESRBnow
It is time for the Christopher Columbus statue to be taken down.
Replace it with a monument to someone who embodies the ideals for which John Lewis and other heroes fought.
Several hours ago, a 47th Ward neighbor was struck and killed by a driver as he was crossing Irving Park on foot near Hoyne. He had just departed an early vote rally that I and many others were attending. I am devastated. (1)
