    #OnThisDay in 1776, General George Washington and his army crossed the Delaware River on #Christmas night to surprise attack a Hessian garrison in Trenton, New Jersey. Washington and his 2,400 men would defeat the Hessians decisively at the Battle of Trenton.

    #OnThisDay in 1775, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and more than a dozen riders warned militia and minutemen that the British regulars were coming. Revere's route included Lexington, where John Hancock and Samuel Adams were. He brought them to safety after he escaped capture.
