    Let’s add some context here. SA’s population: ~60 million Nigeria’s population: ~220 million SA’s 2024 budget: $125bn Nigeria’s 2024 budget: $18.5bn (today’s exchange rates for both) SA’s Tax to GDP: 25% Nigeria’s Tax to GDP: 6% SA’s VAT rate: 15% Nigeria’s VAT rate: 7.5%

    Buhari is on nat’l TV defending a governor who was caught on video taking cash bribes. Sad. A smarter response wld have been: taking a bribe is wrong in every instance regardless of who and what context. If allegations against Ganduje are proven, he shd be punished accordingly.

    It has been difficult for me to engage w/ largely dismissive criticisms of #Nigeria’s move to close its land borders with #Benin & #Niger to address rampant smuggling and #Benin’s systematic flouting of Ecowas trade protocols & other treaties signed w/ #Nigeria.

    Why does Nigerian media systematically fail to distinguish between Miyetti Allah Kattle Houre, a militant group that espouses extreme language, and Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), the actual umbrella body of pastoralists? Its irresponsible.
