Oof, Bernie on Manchin:
“I also find it amusing that Sen. Manchin indicates his worry about the deficit after voting just this week for a military budget of $778 billion, four times greater than Build Back Better over ten years and $25 billion more than the president requested.”

- Romney with a verrrry different statement on Biden than the rest of his party
- Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene just introduced a bill that would “reduce Dr. Fauci’s salary to $0 until a new NIAID administrator is confirmed by the Senate.” The NIAID director’s appointment is not subject to Senate confirmation.
- Extraordinary comments just now from Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) who tells us Mattis’ words were “true, honest, necessary and overdue.” Says she’s struggling with the question of whether to support Trump in 2020.
- Congress passed legislation in 2023 that prevents any president from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO without congressional approval. The lead GOP author? Marco RubioElon Musk says the United States should leave NATO and the UN.
- Sen. Lankford (R-Okla.) was incredibly shaken up after that last video of Officer Hodges being crushed. I and other reporters in the chamber observed Lankford appearing to get teary-eyed. Sen. Daines (R-Mont.) was comforting him and was holding his arm.
- Funny moment just now in the Senate: Lindsey Graham whispered something into his phone and then Siri responded with full volume: “Calling Sean Hannity mobile”
- Oooof — McConnell with a not-so-subtle dig at Hawley, who is voting no on Finland/Sweden joining NATO. “If any senator is looking for a defensible excuse to vote no, I wish them good luck. This is a slam dunk for national security that deserves unanimous bipartisan support.”
- Scathing statement from Bernie Sanders on the election results “It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them…”
- NEW: Ron Johnson says he’ll likely release an interim report within next 1-2 months on his cmte’s Biden probe. He insists it has nothing to do w/ the election, but “if I were a Democrat primary voter I’d want these questions satisfactorily answered before I cast my final vote.”
- CASSIDY’s statement is very brief: “Our Constitution and our country is more important than any one person. I voted to convict President Trump because he is guilty.”
- Mitt Romney on Trump’s tweet: “It was a shocking thing to say. And I won’t dignify it with any further comments.”
- Don Lemon's first sentence on his show tonight: "The president of the United States is a racist."
- NEW: Chief Justice Roberts told senators that he will not read aloud the alleged Ukraine whistleblower’s name or otherwise publicly relay questions that might out him/her—a move that has effectively blocked @RandPaul from asking a question today.
