I am so sad to hear about the passing of my hero Jim Lovell. He was a great role model not only as an astronaut, but also as a person who exemplified a life well lived - both professionally and personally. He will be missed by many, Godspeed my friend.

Seventeen years ago today I stepped outside of space shuttle Columbia for my first spacewalk on @NASAHubble, I experienced the beautiful view of our planet, and have thought about that day every day since.

#OTD in 1984 this amazing photo was taken of @nasa astronaut Bruce McCandless, the first person to go on a spacewalk without a tether. I asked Bruce what that felt like, he said that when he was far from the space shuttle he got really, really cold - he was one cool guy!
