I'm going to say this once: No parent should be "grieving" their child about finding out their identity. This includes: Being ND/autistic Being gay Being trans Being left-handed You are allowed to have feelings! You're allowed to process those feelings! 1/4

I just found out that there's a credit card that gives you higher cashback rewards if you exercise (have an elevated heart rate) for 150 minutes a week. And I want to say 2 things: 1. This is ableist. 2. If you have POTS, now is your time to cash in. Finally, some benefits!

So many allistic people think that if autistic children struggle in their family's environment that they "can't be independent" when 80% of the problem is that the autistic child has been *forced to live in the family's sensory environment* in the first place. 1/4

Lately I've noticed that when I say "I haven't had time" what I really mean is: I haven't had the mental bandwidth/emotional capacity/executive functioning/right sensory environment/a way to easily clear my mind. But it's harder to feel okay saying those other things to people.

Society: "you're so high functioning!" Me: Someone accidentally bought the wrong cereal for me yesterday and I didn't find out until this morning, poured a bowl with milk, had a cry, then waited until my cereal got almost too soggy to start eating it.

While I was watching The Last of Us HBO series, I actually thought to myself "Is Bella wearing a binder during this?" and it turns out they wore a binder throughout the entire season. I'm sure most cis people had no idea & this is the kind of stuff that TERFs want to ban.

I genuinely cannot believe that for so many autistic people, we have had to deal with awful sensory experiences for DECADES, and the only answer I get from neurotypical people who don't want to wear a mask, after asking multiple times, is "I don't want to" - 1/9

I think many people don't realize that autistic people under extreme stress can immediately snap back to "work mode" or "customer service mode" because our whole lives have required that of us in ways that haven't been true for allistic people.

To literally everyone who works on The Good Doctor: BEING AUTISTIC DOES NOT MAKE YOU TRANSPHOBIC. Stop making Shawn say awful things to trans people "because he doesn't understand." A large amount of autistic people are LGBTQ+!! Stop pretending that bigotry is part of autism!

Hey, teachers, doctors, (sometimes parents): Stop. Taking. Ear Protection. From. Autistic Kids. You're putting them in pain. It's pain. It's called hyperacusis. 65% of autistic people have a pain disability involving loud noises. Ear protection prevents the pain.

It is really weird to me that as an autistic kid, the adults around me got upset or frustrated at me for crying. It was like I was required to have an explanation, and if I couldn't speak there was even more of a problem (which I almost always couldn't when I cried). 1/3

Self-diagnosis is an absolutely reasonable thing to do especially for autistic adults - because most of them will do more research than a person doing the diagnostic assessment (the person who diagnosed me said this), and... [continued] 1/5
