    Free Bases During my years coaching in the Angels organization we would keep track of these every game. FREE BASES. Our goal was to have 5 or less per game. Our analytics department told us if we did this we had a 72% chance of winning that game. FREE BASES are… Walks Balks

    Trout had five plate appearances yesterday and reached base in all five. Today he was 0-4 with four strikeouts. One of the best players in the world was amazing yesterday and not very good at all today. Adults, pleasure remember stuff like this when watching kids play the game.

    Pitchers: We can’t get mad when the umpire calls ball 4 on a close pitch when the other three balls were big misses. Hitters: We can’t get mad when the umpire calls strike 3 on a close pitch when we took great pitches to hit for the other two strikes. Fix your perspective.

    Pitchers: It’s no coincidence the guys who struggle to hit their partner consistently in catch are also the guys who struggle to throw strikes consistently on the mound. You won’t figure it out on the mound until you figure it out in catch. Catch is a training drill, not warm up.
