There are several boutique labels, putting out a combined dozen or more killer titles every month that all sell well. The demand is there. 2023 was our biggest year ever, and 2024 is looking to be even bigger. It’s frustrating money men don’t see the value.

It felt inevitable, but still sad to get confirmation. The world needs as many places stocking physical media as possible, and it’s a bummer to lose options. But we’re still here, fiercely independent, and thriving. And so physical media lives on.

RIP to anti-war activist, storied performer, and Canadian icon Donald Sutherland. By all accounts, a stand up guy, and astounding performer. One can think of a dozen all time great performances without trying. Our condolences to his friends, family, and fans.

We swear we normally have more of his stuff, but he always is extremely popular and we are still restocking after the holidays.

Devastating. The staff and programmers at the Revue are some of the kindest, hardest working, curious film people we have ever met and make this city better. Here’s hoping for a quick and fair resolution, because this is bullshit.

Physical media sells. People want to own the art they love, and have it treated with the respect it deserves.

Sign and share to keep one of the few independently run, non profit cinemas left open and running. They have some of the best programmers, the best popcorn, and show films on almost every format. It’s an oasis, and needs to keep going.

If no other celebrity comes during TIFF, we’ll still be thrilled. An absolute legend, and hell of a nice guy. @MoternMedia (Sucks to be Brendan, who stepped out for exactly the amount of time to miss the visit completely.)

Awful news, and we hope the staff are okay. It should go without saying thatBay Street Video echoes this stance. Trans rights are human rights.

Just figuring out how many books we lost when a woman decided to whip her coffee at the shelves and verbally assault a bookseller because we think that gender affirming care is health care. If you don’t think trans rights are human right don’t come in, don’t follow us. Just Don’t

Very welcome news! Thank you to everyone who made their love and anger known. Keep up the support, and keep that energy for all such cases of greed and injustice. They can try to make Toronto unlivable, and in many ways they are winning. But we don’t have to just let them.

Thank goodness. It’s always a relief when the good guys win. And it was heartening to see the community rally in such a decisive way. We should remember that energy and power.

We’ve lost a titan. Even without his own prolific output and attitude inspiring more filmmakers than we will ever know to pick up a camera, the careers he helped launch are staggering. Show business, both the shows and the business, literally wouldn’t be the same without him. RIP

Based on how busy we are, and the success of smaller speciality labels, there is absolutely a consumer appetite for physical media. People want to own the art they love and not worry about it disappearing off a service because someone needed a tax break.

Data can really be taken both ways, in my experience, but I absolutely believe that the removal of physical media from in-person retail was NOT a consumer choice, it was driven by studios wanting to stanch ownership and retailers chasing fractionally higher profit margins.
