What is wrong with us??? “Officials in NYC said they would close public schools only as last resort, in part because about 114,000 students in school system are homeless and may have nowhere else to get hot meals, medical care or even a place to wash their dirty laundry” @nytimes

Immediate public housing, universal health care, and counseling and social services support, immediately. I think we should each ask ourselves what we would want if it were our niece or nephew, no?

Intolerable: our campus at Columbia has been turned into a police state. Amsterdam and 116th blockaded. Morningside from 114th to 118th blockaded. Nothing but NYPD, no one else present. Leaving office now, empty hallways except 6 guards. All the trappings of authoritarian state.

Foucault's *Nietzsche* just arrived, all 410 pages of it! The official publication date @EditionsduSeuil is May 31, 2024, but the publisher has already run through the first printing and has ordered a second run. The book should be available in libraries any time now...

Faculty need to reassert the academic mission and take back the university from central administrators who are not faithful to our shared values. Essential reading by my brilliant law colleague David Pozen on the presidentialization of Columbia University: balkin.blogspot.com/2024/05/seeing…

South of 96th Street??? Do they have no shame?? Do they not have ANY self-awareness or criticality of how constantly racist and classist they are? Could it be any more obvious that they are just protecting white property? Appalling. The whole thing: appealing. 8pm?? #Getoutahere!
