A first for an Irish Robin! A great record of a Robin ringed in Calais in France in mid Sept and found in West Cork two weeks later. This is the first record of a Robin moving between France and Ireland! Thanks to Shona in Cork for contacting us when she found the ring!

A difficult decision and not taken lightly, we have intervened to rescue the Barn Owl chicks after the female dissappeared 6 days ago. The 2 youngest chicks are now with Animal Magic to be cared for & hopefully released into the wild when healthy & ready: bit.ly/BarnOwlRescue

(AL) It is vital that we protect #birds and the habitats they rely on, particularly during nesting season. From March 1 until Aug 31, it is against the law to cut, burn or otherwise destroy vegetation including hedges. We urge you to respect this and share this info widely!

A reminder if you're visiting the beach this summer that birds such as Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Little Terns nest on beaches all around our coast. Their eggs and chicks are *extremely* vulnerable to people, dogs, horses etc etc. Be wildlife-aware and give them a chance!

We're all about records when it comes to Barn Owls & this is a good one! It's a bumper breeding season & for the 1st time we've recorded broods of six #barnowls in nests in Co's Wexford, Kilkenny, Clare, Limerick & Offaly, which now join Co's Kerry, Cork, Tipperary & Galway #LBAF

It is with deep sadness that we must inform our members and supporters of the death of our CEO, Nicholas Williams. Nick was a passionate conservationist and a lovely person, and we will miss him greatly. Our sympathies are with his family and friends. May he rest in peace.

We ringed a young Barn Owl at a nest in Kerry on 29th June 2011, unfortunately found dead in S. Tipperary on 16th Sept 2022, 114km & 4097 days later, but what a life, it reached its 12th calendar year, making it the oldest Irish Barn Owl on record. Thanks John O'Brien for report

Bird flu has been ripping its way through our tern colonies. The #DublinPort tern colony has unfortunately not escaped. On one visit alone we counted & safely disposed of 70 dead adult terns & >200 dead juveniles. The photo 👇 shows the devastating reality of #HPAI. @DublinPortCo

*SPOT THE EGGS* Nests of some beach-nesting species are hard to see, even when you know they're there! Please be very careful when walking and keep dogs on a leash as much as possible, to give birds like Ringed Plover, Oystercatcher, Little Tern a chance to nest successfully!
