In my 20-plus years of doing bracketology, I can honestly say this is the most surprising selection show experience I’ve ever had. Wow.

Maybe one of these years, the NCAA will decide to start its national championship game at a more reasonable hour.

Illinois knocks off Ohio State in Columbus. On a side note, Illini have more Q1 wins now than Auburn, NC State, Washington, TCU, Butler, UCF, Syracuse, Clemson (and others) ... that’s your Field, folks.

I’ve come to appreciate the First Four, but there will always be something about that Noon game on Thursday that means the tipoff of the NCAA tourney.

For most of my adult life, the opening full day of the NCAA tournament has served as a beacon of spring and the beginning of the greatest three weeks in sports. I am already missing the first tip around 12:15 ET today and the unbridled theatrics of March Madness.

Connecticut jumps Purdue. Huskies are No. 1 in the NET and own two decisive Q1 road wins. They also currently "look" like the best team in the country.
