I am going to stop posting on Twitter on July 18th. If you still want your daily fix of cephalopods, you can find me on Bluesky (There is a cephalopod starter pack) and also on Instagram
A screenshot from bluesky, showing the Cephalopods Daily profile. The banner is giant pacific octopus and the profile picture is a flamboyant cuttlefish. The text reads: "Cephalopods Daily @cephalopodsdaily.bsky.social 6.3K followers 99 following 2.5K posts" with description saying "[Octopus Emoji] [Squid Emoji] Cephalopod Enthusiast [Canadian Flag] iNaturalist Junkie [Squid Emoji] [Octopus Emoji]"

This has to be the best and most awkward depiction of octopus mating. The embarrassment is palpable. πŸ™πŸ“·Pearse et al (Living invertebrates, 1987)
A drawing depicting octopus mating. The male octopus is depicted from the front. One of its arms, the hectocotylus, is extended and reaching into the female's mantle cavity. The female octopus is depicting from the side. Both octopuses are staring towards you, with a rather awkward look, like you just walked in on something. There is text above the drawing stating "Copulation in octopuses involves the male inserting his hectocotylus arm (3rd right) into the cavity of the female, along which the spermatophores are conveyed."

I find it hilarious that one pattern cuttlefish like to do is a big white square on their mantle. They are great at doing patterns to blend in with their enviroment but sometimes they just think "time for β– "
A European Common Cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) exhibiting the "disruptive" pattern. It is sitting on some black pebbles that are about as big as the cuttlefish. There a some light brown pebbles to the side. The cuttlefish is facing away from the camera. The cuttlefish is showing a pattern that contains white square in the middle of its mantle. The rest of its skin is a mix of dark and light brown that looks like sand.

This might be the most confident I've seen anyone.
A Larger Pacific striped octopus standing in a tank with two arms with its suckers visible. It is leaning on a plastic tube with two of its arms, and its striped mantle is drooping down, facing the camera. One arm is reaching back behind the mantle and is curled, making it look like the octopus is deep in thought or they are confidently leaning on their arm.

Here's what the TBH Creature might look like if it was a cephalopod
A drawing of the TBH creature, except it has a cephalopod body plan. Its torso is behind its head on the upper right, and arms protrude out of the head where its mouth would be.

Pass the popcorn!🍿 In 2020, scientists velcro'd 3D glasses to European common cuttlefish (Sepia officinalis) and set up a 3D theatre to study how they percieve depth perception. I know this is very cool research but I can't get over how goofy they look like this.

This image of octopus mating never fails to make me laugh. The awkward tension depicted is palpable. This is why you always knock first.

These might not look like squids, but just you wait! These are actually the egg masses of the Diamondback squid (Thysanoteuthis rhombus) These masses have a length of 0.6 to 1.8 m with a diametre of 11 to 30 cm andcontain between 35,000 to 75,000 eggs. That's a lot of squid!

This is not a vampire squid at all, but a cirrothauma magna, which is a species of cirrate octopus. Vampire squids, although related to octopuses, are not octopuses. This video is also greatly sped up and mirrored. This is not how fast they actually move.
