    Today, I have resigned as Brexit Secretary. I cannot in good conscience support the terms proposed for our deal with the EU. Here is my letter to the PM explaining my reasons, and my enduring respect for her.

    I cannot think of a Tory leadership candidate more unfit to become the Prime Minister of this country than Boris Johnson, the worst Foreign Secretary of modern times who has caused huge offence to large numbers of our fellow citizens. A dark and depressing time for the UK.

    Disgraceful for the Brexit Secretary Steve Barclay on @BBCr4today to suggest the abuse and intimidation @Anna_Soubry was subject to yesterday is a reason not to hold a democratic #PeoplesVote. The notion we should be intimidated into NOT holding democratic votes is deplorable.

    He ran a disgusting referendum campaign, was an atrocious joke of a Foreign Secretary and resigns leaving a trail of chaos and an unholy mess he played a huge part in creating. Glad to see the back of his time in office.

    It is grossly offensive to equate the experience of slaves with that of British citizens being part of the EU. It illustrates a total lack of understanding of the appalling, brutal nature of slavery, nevermind ignorance of how the EU works and the benefits membership brings.
