    Initial effects of tsunami waves are expected to occur on the Kauai coast, with effects to Hawai'i Island beginning 20-30 minutes later. These massive waves can wrap around the island shore, so impacts may occur at any point along the coast. AVOID THE AREA.

    Pacific Tsunami Warning Center extended the TSUNAMI WATCH for Hawai‘i. Magnitude of earthquake has been revised from 8.0 to 8.7. Analysis continues on whether Hawaii is threatened. Earliest expected arrival time: 7:17 p.m. HST. More alerts will be issued as analysis continues.
    Map shows earthquake location off Kamchatka coast. Hawaii and much of Alaska and North American West Coast are in Tsunami Watch. Parts of Aleutian Islands are in Tsunami Advisory or Tsunami Warning.

    Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a TSUNAMI WATCH for Hawaii. An earthquake with a magnitude of 8.0 was recorded at 1:33 p.m. HST east of Kamchatka, Russia. This MAY be strong enough to generate destructive waves in Hawaii. Monitor alerts for additional information.

    Evacuation of coastal tsunami inundation zones should be complete by 6:15 p.m. HST. DO NOT RETURN TO THE AREA until authorities approve going back, which may take hours or days. To see whether you are in an evacuation zone, check the link in the next reply.

    EVACUATION LIFTED: The County of Hawai'i has canceled the evacuation order for coastal inundation zones. Use caution in returning and watch out for damage. Shelters will remain open until 7 a.m. Wednesday. County beach parks remain closed.

    The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory reports an eruption at the Halemaumau Crater of the Kilauea Volcano. Trade winds will push any embedded ash toward the Southwest. Fallout is likely in the Kau District in Wood Valley, Pahala, Naalehu and Ocean View. Stay indoors to avoid Exposu

    Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued a TSUNAMI WARNING for the State of Hawai‘i. The earliest expected arrival time for destructive waves in the state is 7:17 p.m. HST and effects may continue for hours in coastal areas statewide. Take action to protect lives and property.

    Wave impacts to Hawaii should begin in about an hour. Evacuation from the coastal flood zones should be complete. If you have not left the inundation zone, you should do so now.
