    Morning practice, day after Thanksgiving. Came out to the gym to find the guys, on their own, had already finished one drill & were into the 2nd. No instructions. No practice plan. They know what’s expected. I’ve always said it: Player led > Coach led. #Proud #WhatItTakes

    No coach bats 1.000 in recruiting, & most times “No’s” are due to reasons outside our control. After a call this morning from a recruit who took a scholarship from the school his brother attends, I received an email from said recruit’s dad & I know we do things the right way.

    I won't stop saying it. The "First Four" should be at-large teams only. Stop putting AQ's in those games. The mid & low majors who worked so hard to have a chance to dance shouldn't have to play in, what is essentially, a play-in game.

    Advice for young people who want to coach college ball (or thinking they might), if you get a chance, even at part-time salary, take it. Once you're too deep into making money, or too far along in spouse/kids, the jobs available to make the jump are that much harder to take/find.

    Saw a kid I kinda liked today. Then I noticed something...he played w/a great big smile. Unencumbered pure joy for the game. That energy was infectious. His teammates fed off it. He clearly loved to play. He made our list. Get it kids? #WhatWeLookFor #ThoughtsFromLivePeriod2

    Last year, at graduation, @TyPeterson_ handed me the 1st business card I ever gave him when we first recruited him. This year, he came back to see teammates graduate. He hands me his new business card, framed, and a note that brought tears instantly. #MyFamily #WhyICoach

    Contentious AAU game. Side out for Team A. Passer throws it towards the backcourt. Player from Team B jumps out of bounds in steal attempt. Passer looks at ref & says “He’s over the line.” Ref replies, “How ‘bout you use a pass fake?” #AAUBingo #RefIsRight

    Kinda fed up with everyone saying tonight’s game will be “ugly.” Defense is not ugly. Defense is tough, sophisticated & smart. There’s as much beauty in a team’s ability to force their opponent into tough shots as there is in transition O and alley-oops. #RespectTheWHOLEGame

    I say it every year…the “First Four” games should ALWAYS be at-large teams. Conference champions deserve to play in non play-in games. Let them feel the real tournament.
