- Great leaders bring different people all together, all working towards one goal. Toxic leaders separate those people & make sure they know they aren’t a part of the group. MUST WATCH. Especially for you seniors who want to make freshman “pay their dues.”
- As perennial national power @VandyBoys begin fall practice, you’ll notice not one player wearing anything that says Vanderbilt. Why? Because they have built a culture where every player- including returnees- has to EARN the PRIVILEGE of wearing that ‘V’.
- Many teams have rules like being on time, wearing a uniform correctly, shaving, or dressing professionally. These things have nothing to do with baseball. They have everything to do with doing what’s asked of you... and THAT has everything to do with becoming a great player.
- Everyone sees an incredible walk-off steal of home. What no one sees is the gathering of information in the pitches prior that made the runner think he could make it. Paying attention to the tiny details of the game is a separator skill… that wins games.
- When asked about what he’ll remember about coaching pitcher, Kumar Rocker, @VandyBoys head coach Tim Corbin doesn’t mention a single word about him as a pitcher. There is a direct correlation between who you are as a person with who you are as an athlete.
- Roy Halladay was demoted from Toronto down to A-ball to rebuild his delivery. Mariano Rivera signed for $2500 out of a tryout after a scout saw him play SS. All opportunities aren’t created equal. But you do have an equal opportunity to make the most of whatever chance you get.
- Little things- many that will never appear in the box score- can help create big wins... especially when done every day, by everyone.

- You look cool when you run hard and turn routine outs into hustle hits. You look cool when you play catch with pride and throw the ball how you’re supposed to. You look cool when you pick up a teammate after an error or K. The cool way to do things IS the right way to do things.
