Reminder: the people running this account and working on our forest are human beings running on good intentions and pots of coffee. We're doing our best to relay accurate information about the #TunnelFire in addition to happenings throughout our forest.

This was not "Leave no trace," from a bunch of camper south of Flagstaff on state Route 89A. There is no trash service in the forest! Don't pile YOUR mess at the entrance to the forest road.

Today marks the start of Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance. We remember the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshot firefighters killed in the line of duty 9 years ago in the Yarnell Fire. Flags at all state buildings fly at half-staff in their memory. tinyurl.com/mw6js9dh

The Fossil Creek permitted area is reopened! We are very excited to welcome the public back to this gorgeous part of the Coconino National Forest. We’ve made major repairs to the facilities and roads after the Backbone Fire, and we’ve been looking forward to our permit season

Thanks to one of our staff who captured video of this large group of elk along Highway 89A near Flagstaff back in November. Use caution when traveling along the hwy in the north country so as not to hit one of these large fellas crossing the road--especially during evening hours.

Yikes!! Coral snake?!? Look again… If you’re thinking you just stumbled across the venomous coral snake while hiking around the base of Mt. Elden, you aren’t alone. Upon a closer look, you will likely discover that you actually just found an Arizona mountain kingsnake! (Sonoran

Abandoned campfires are a leading cause of destructive wildfires. They are illegal 24/7/365. If you are camping and have a campfire, you MUST completely extinguish your campfire cold-to-touch before going to sleep for the night or leaving the area for a walk, hike, or to go home.

Wildfire start 6 miles N of Flagstaff just W of Schultz Pass.#PipelineFire several acres & very active on all flanks. Many resources on scene a& air tankers on way. Recreationists in the area should leave, especially those in Schultz area down to the Ft Valley Trailhead.
