Comparison of quadriceps and hamstrings EMG activity during: FAST DECEL vs CUT vs 40cm LAND 1⃣"Quadriceps are undergoing high-speed ECCENTRIC activation" 2⃣"Quadriceps activity exceeds maximal ISOMETRIC contraction" 3⃣ "Hamstring activation much lower than quadriceps" #ACL

33-66% of ACL injuries in soccer ⚽️ occur in DEFENSIVE pressing!! 👀 Visual distraction a key situational pattern, but the physical ability to decelerate rapidly from high speeds also critical 👇🏻

So, unfortunately we saw another high profile ACL injury this last week with Rodri at @ManCity ⚽️ 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 📍DECELERATiNG from high speed 📍BRAKiNG with single limb support 📍External force from defender 📍20 mins into 1st half NOTE: Forces during these BRAKING steps are huge ‼️👇🏻

If you improve your horizontal deceleration (braking) performance capability you will likely have… ➡️ Better change of direction (COD) performance Why? 📌 You can use greater % of max speed/sustain higher speeds prior to COD 📌 You require less distance to stop

External forces when DECELERATING can be huge compared to ACCELERATING❗️ What about comparison of internal joint forces ❓ DECELERATION (~5m Reactive) = 📌Hip Extensor = 164% Greater 📌Knee Extensor = 39% Greater ACCELERATION = 📌 Ankle Plantar Flexor = 63% Greater
