I'm better than you all! I can out-learn you. I can out-read you. I can out-think you. And I can out-philosophize you. And I'm gonna outlast you.

The discussion about the origins of Hip-Hop has reached a level of tribalism that honestly makes me 🤮. We need to stop talking about Hip-Hop from the context of racial and ethnic pride and start discussing our culture through the lens of economics (the struggle doesn’t GAF if

DJ Clark Kent founded the Supermen DJs (DJ Scratch, Daddy Rich, Plastic Man, etc.) in the 1980s. At that time, they were the world’s most loved, envied, and, to a degree, hated DJ crew (not because they sucked but because they were so good). DJ culture was so different back then,

KRS One is right! Since the dawn of time, there has been no genetic or scientific evidence to support the belief that any race is superior to another. Despite this, the concept of race is still used to marginalize and oppress people based solely on their appearance. Although

In Hip-Hop, no element was "invented" by a single individual. In the case of Breaking specifically, the dance was codified by a community of dancers over a period of time. The Zulu Kings might have laid the first cornerstones, yes. Still, B-Boys like Trac 2 (Luis Angel Mateo) and

The state of DJing will continue to worsen b/c Gen Z DJs value aesthetic over authenticity. Gen Z prioritize what their social media feed looks like over how their DJ sets sound like. Forget 10,000 hours of practice. The only numbers Gen Z obsess over are followers, likes and

I want to apologize for the technical issues with the show tonight. I wanted to come back rly strong and usually I always handle every aspect of my show myself - to save time this was one of the first times I've outsourced essential things like rekordbox bpm's and letting

The crux of this Coachella DJ scandal is Grimes & her defenders reduce DJing to hitting the SYNC button on your controller or app, then letting A.I. magically lock the tempo of two different songs. But DJing is an intuitive art form, not computer science! Machines lack intuition.

Hip Hop went from being a genre of music conceived by oppressed people who wanted to create something of their own, in spite of power structure policies like Benign Neglect, to being a product that sells sex, drugs and violence to keep the same people who created it oppressed.

I just want to clarify something for my Grimes advocates but moreover for all of you aspiring DJs who've been keeping up with Grimes' miscarriage of DJing. Human perception of time in terms of beats per minute is extremely malleable. Since the human brain focuses best on one

DJing with 2 turntables & 1 mixer isn’t intrinsically Hip Hop. Radio DJs played music this way as far back as the 1950s. What you do to the music is what classifies it as Hip Hop. TECHNIQUE is what separates Grandmaster Flash & GrandWizzard Theodore from their DJ predecessors.

The "Buffalo Gals" music video encapsulates what I meant by "...the innovation in Hip-Hop was primarily driven by its diversity." It features Latino, Black, and White Breakers and Graff artists and women, who, by the way, aren't being sexualized. I'd be remiss if I didn't add

Am I the only DJ who feels concerned about how normalized mediocrity is in the digital age of DJing? The Tiesto, David Guetta, and Deadmau5 fanboys are swarming me like bees to honey this week. The idol worship of DJs who couldn’t carry a mix longer than 20 secs is disheartening.

RIP @Dallas_Penn. Some who come across this tweet won’t realize how much of a trailblazer you were in Hip Hop. It was you who introduced me and many of my peers to internet streaming in the ‘90s. Thank you for your contributions to our culture. I’ll always remember your smile.
