This is a powerful photo of A's head groundskeeper Clay Wood being consoled as he prepares the field at the Oakland Coliseum one last time.
This was Clay's 31st and final season with the club. Hundreds of others will lose their jobs.

MLB’s all-time hits leader (Pete Rose), all-time HR leader (Barry Bonds), and all-time Cy Young leader (Roger Clemens) are all NOT in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
It will go down as ‘The Will Klein Game’
On a super team with $300M+ contracts all over the field, it was the last guy in the bullpen, making league minimum, who had been released by 3 teams, started the year in the minors, and left off the playoff roster until the World Series.
Dusty Baker waited 25 seasons, nearly 4,000 games as a manager.
And what does he do during the final play? He doesn’t even watch the play.
He immediately picks up his pencil and marks the play down in his scorebook.
The season started 72 hours ago and we already have a betting scandal, fan boycotts, ejections, and 3 benches clearing incidents.
This season is gonna absolutely rule.
Freddie Freeman on Intentional Talk:
“Two months ago, I’m hitting .220 BA. And Charlie goes, ‘Daddy, I’m gonna need you to start playing better so I can go to the All-Star Game and meet Fernando.’
I said, ‘That’s the only reason you want me to play better?’
He goes, ‘Yes.’”
Blue Jays manager John Schneider is intentionally walking Shohei Ohtani so he can get to 8x All-Star, MVP, future HOF Mookie Betts…followed by 9x All-Star, MVP, future HOF Freddie Freeman.
And we’re all just like “yeah, that’s probably the right move.”
For selfish reasons, I hate that the first official MLB games are being played completely around the globe at 4am.
Exhibition games are great. The international series midseason are great.
But this is supposed to be America’s Pastime. Opening Day is supposed to be ours.
