Just dreaming about the peaceful ice of Europa.
Jupiter's ice moon Europa, as seen by NASA's Galileo spacecraft. Reddish cracks and grooves cross its otherwise relatively smooth, white surface.

Europa is about the same size as Earth's moon – yet evidence suggests that, beneath its surface, it has more water than all Earth's oceans combined! See why we think this is the case and the implications for life.

Update: our spacecraft remains in a nominal state – power positive, thermally stable, dynamically stable, and in two-way communication with ground teams. Over the next few weeks, we'll be in a commissioning phase to confirm that all hardware and software is operating as expected.

Science is booming! We've successfully deployed the magnetometer boom. Once we arrive at Europa, the Europa Clipper Magnetometer (ECM) aims to confirm that Europa’s ocean exists, measure its depth and salinity, and measure the ice shell's thickness. More: europa.nasa.gov/spacecraft/ins…

Ok, listen up. Here's your briefing about what we know so far, and what we hope to find out when we get to Jupiter's ocean moon Europa: europa.nasa.gov/why-europa/eur…
Illustration showing a cross-section of Europa's interior. The top layer is ice, with cracks that may possible vent geysers to the surface. Below that is global ocean of liquid water. The bottom layer is the rocky core, which could have volcanic vents.

In January 1610, Galileo discovered the largest moons of Jupiter, including Europa. You can see them yourself with most binoculars or – as in this photo – a zoom lens. Jupiter and three moons can be seen at top center. Our mission will take a closer look: europa.nasa.gov

With strong evidence for an ocean of liquid water beneath its icy crust, Jupiter's moon Europa could have conditions suitable for life. In 2024, our spacecraft will set off to take a closer look. Join us: europa.nasa.gov

Europa science is heating up! New research shows that volcanic activity may have occurred on the seafloor of Jupiter’s moon in the recent past – and may still be happening. Our mission will help put these predictions to the test. Details: go.nasa.gov/3oPoj4O
