Civil servants have an obligation under the civil service code to give evidence-based advice and uphold the rule of law. Good ministers welcome this rather than dismiss it as politically motivated.

- Get well soon Peter Bone MP, currently recovering from Covid. He refused to wear a mask in the Commons and was there last Friday. Luckily all his friends on the conservative benches have nothing to worry about. That’s right isn’t it @Jacob_Rees_Mogg & @sajidjavid?
- My joint letter with @mikeclancy1 to Liz Truss asking her to substantiate her allegations of antisemitism:
- My response to Liz Truss’s unfounded accusations of antisemitism against the civil service.
- Can you imagine being a civil servant who has raised a complaint, sitting in the department that Dominic Raab is the Secretary of State for, watching TV to find out your fate? This whole process is a farce. We need serious reform of the way ministerial bullying is dealt with.
00:00 - We’ve today launched a judicial review, seeking to overturn the Prime Minister’s decision that the Home Secretary’s conduct did not breach the Ministerial Code. The PM needs to recognise the damage he has done to confidence in this process for dealing with bullying and harassment
- We’ve got record delays in the courts and NHS. The jails are full, there’s a housing crisis and a war on mainland Europe. Meanwhile, a minister with a made up job title is banging on about what coloured lanyard half a million civil servants can wear. Christ on a bike.Replying to @Smyth_ChrisMcVey says civil service rainbow lanyards and staff networks must go “Working in the civil service is all about leaving your political views at the building entrance. Trying to introduce them by the back door via lanyards should not happen.”
- Sir Philip had a choice to resign & go quietly with financial compensation, instead he has chosen to speak out against the attacks on public servants. I know many thousands of his colleagues will recognise the courage & integrity he is showing in doing so. mailchi.mp/2fe725537f0c/r…]
- Yes Lucy, incredibly brave of one of the most powerful people in the country to attack civil servants for doing their job, knowing they’re not even allowed to defend themselves. Inspiring.
- As I told @CamillaTominey, the report showed there was no collusion between civil servants, the complaints had been made in good faith and there is no "snowflake" culture in Whitehall. Raab's accusations are nothing more than sour grapes.
00:00 - Esther, common sense normally dictates that you read the detail before voicing an opinion. Our action is about civil servants’ legal obligations under the Civil Service Code to uphold the rule of law. Click bait attacks on civil servants are just a transparent distraction tactic.thesun.co.uk/news/27697340/… It’s the job of civil servants to carry out the decisions lawfully made by ministers If a minority of civil servants aren’t prepared to implement the policies of the Government they serve, then clearly they should consider if the civil service is for them
- These are serious accusations from a former Secretary of State, who is now standing to be leader of her party. If she has evidence to back up those claims she should publish it, otherwise withdraw. There are about 500,000 full time civil servants. Even taking the 5% figure, on this basis that means the former Business Secretary thinks around 25,000 civil servants should be in jail.
- Not only is the Home Secretary’s cowardly attack on the impartiality and integrity of the civil service a transparent attempt to deflect from her govt’s own policy failings, but it is also a clear breach of the Ministerial Code. My letter to the Prime Minister.
- So, not something I’m very proud of, but I overestimated the integrity of Jacob Rees-Mogg. These are real. I don’t know if he understands - or even cares - about the damage he is doing to the civil service, but others should. It’s time the adults had a word.I’m not sure this is real. Haven’t seen one of those pristine green felt boards since I was a civil servant 25 years ago. If it is, it’s the most crass, condescending act I’ve seen from a minister. If it’s not, it tells you something that everyone thinks it could be.
