The most important lesson from Appelman et al is not that everyone with PEM should get a two day CPET with muscle biopsies, but that we should listen to patients. ๐Ÿงต

Fellow healthcare professionals, why is it so hard to apologize for having thought that LC or ME is an FND? We have to apologize and do the work to make right what we did wrong. Can't find my old thread about this, so here's a new one.

Dag lieve collega's. ๐Ÿงต

Today the first article I wrote in bed was published. It responds to the recent recommendation of GET for PEM by prof Fedorowski et al. In our piece of correspondence, we explain why GET should not be recommended for pw PEM. See the full text here rdcu.be/dw0Vq

ME is different because it wasn't for a lack of science that we gaslit people, it was due to our own ignorance and our bias against the chronically ill. And the injustices against pwME are still ongoing. To me it is unethical to advocate for better LC care without mentioning ME.

I feel I have to give a shoutout to the ME community. Y'all told us about PEM, directed us to resources about the pace trial, pointed out papers from the 80s that have now been replicated in LC (but were not cited) etc. etc. The ME community taught me everything I know. ๐Ÿ™

After a day of meetings with LC and disability researchers and community, I can't help but reflecting on how we have seen patient centred arguments emerge across so many fields and what this means for LC /1

Echt waar.

You know, we tried. We tried gentle exercise in bouts of 30 s and resting after. And yet, people keep telling us about how exercise is beneficial. Will you ever just listen to patients? Find a cure for PEM and the secondary deconditioning isn't an issue anymore. ๐Ÿงต

It is 2024 and long covid researchers are still unaware of PEM. I really don't get it. It wasn't like I myself knew what PEM was before I fell ill. But I was forced to learn. How are researchers allowed to get away with less than the bare minimum time and time again? ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

If yoga worked as a long covid treatment, no one would have long covid anymore. It's the number one advice when you present with LC - do yoga and/or mindfulness. Everyone has tried this already. Please don't waste money on trialling this.

๐Ÿงต
