The geopolitical impacts of COVID policy will be seen in a decade or less. Countries that prevented infection will have healthy populations. Countries that did not will be incapacitated by chronic disease and disability.

If anyone tells you that "getting infected to prevent infection" (herd immunity) is good, and measures to prevent infection are bad ("immunity debt") it is incorrect and goes against the principles of public health. And sounds ridiculous unless

The pandemic is already reducing living standards globally. In a post-pandemic world we face lower life expectancy, less access to healthcare, higher cost of living, greater job insecurity and the loss of many comforts we took for granted. Sad to see so many ppl cheering this on.

Reality check: #SARSCoV2 will never be endemic. It is an epidemic disease, and always will be. This means it will find unvaccinated or under-vaccinated people and spread rapidly in those groups. It will display the typical waxing and waning pattern of epidemic diseases 1/5.

Just explained to a public health person that "immunity debt" is a manufactured term and disinformation, and that the logic of the term would lead to cessation of all childhood vaccination. And that it was as illogical as "car accident debt" or "heart attack debt" - drink and

The denial and anger on Twitter around COVID is likely part of the Kubler-Ross stages of grieving for the world as we knew it in 2019.

Went to shopping centre yesterday - hardly anyone was wearing a mask - compared to ~40% prior to ending of mandated isolation. People think COVID is over. Sending the message "pandemic is over" explains the poor booster rates - yet another missed opportunity for COVID control.

MPX is an orthopoxvirus closely related to #smallpox. It has 2 clades- the milder one has a fatality rate similar to #SARSCoV2 - the other, closer to SARS1 at 10%. UK outbreak caused by the milder clade. #monkeypox has surged since 2017 due to (thread) wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/27…

Is the fatal pneumonia in Argentina a mutated #SARSCoV2 that evades current testing? Or a new virus? Is there mild/asymptomatic infection that is being missed, thereby allowing spread, just as occurred in Wuhan?
