For the latest issue of The New Yorker, I wrote an essay on Stuart Reid’s very good book on Congo, decolonization, American Cold War policy in Africa, and Patrice Lumumba’s assassination. newyorker.com/magazine/2023/…
Trump hasn’t tweeted much today. Why? My guess: He’s taken to heart the criticisms he received about the rally, from the racial insensitivity to the lack of focus on the concerns of regular Americans. Personal growth is important, & I welcome his newfound seriousness of purpose.
Mitch McConnell criticizing the Muslim ban, then getting Gorsuch on the Court to uphold it, and then celebrating the decision is such a perfect metaphor for both the establishment GOP paving the way to Trumpism, and then ideologically embracing it fully.
New Interview: I talked to Daniella Weiss, a West Bank settler and activist, about how her religious views shape her view of the conflict, why she thinks human rights should not be considered universal, and her movement’s extreme plans for the region. newyorker.com/news/q-and-a/t…

My advice to President Trump regarding his speech tonight in Georgia: Stick to the issues, explain the governing visions of Perdue and Loeffler, and avoid personal attacks & factual inaccuracies.
I have immense respect for Breyer as a man & a jurist, but I worry this decision reeks of partisanship. If the Court becomes just another instrument of partisan politics, then we’re truly lost. What about waiting until a 2nd Trump term to prove this isn’t about Team R & Team D?
The most prominent organization fighting anti-Semitism in America will commend your “leadership in fighting hate” 24 hours after you endorse vile neo-Nazi anti-Semitism…if you take a strong stand against critics of Israel
