On opening day 2025 every single starting catcher worked out of a knee down setup. Here’s what they looked like when they made their big league debut.

Division I Gold Glove Winner Caden Bodine’s receiving has been on a different level this year. Relentlessly moving the ball late with exceptional speed and leverage on a consistent basis .

Over the past few years knee down stances have taken the league by storm. Catchers have seen significant increases in performance as a result. Here’s how it works🧵

Catchers need to spend more time training arm strength. Velocity has way bigger impact on pop time and caught stealing percentage than exchange time. Here’s why.🧵

The ability to pull the ball is one of the most under developed tools across all levels of baseball. 2024 MLB Season Averages AVG / SLG Pull: .345 / .643 Middle: .324 / .474 Oppo: .249 / .425 Pulling the ball is a good thing. Pulling the ball in the air is electric.

Contrary to what many believe, the wide spread adoption of knee down stances has not lead to an increase in wild pitches and passed balls.

The obvious benefit to catching off a knee is the significant increase in receiving capabilities. This is often accredited to having a lower center of mass that puts the catcher lower to the ground, but this is only part of the picture.
