I have a few different jobs, but by far my favorite is being a homeschooling mom of four.

Teaching my seven year old how to email and type was a huge mistake (he’s cc’d his brother and my husband)

Update: I made homemade waffles and my husband was out at a work event so we also watched Ponyo. He said the waffles were yummy.

When I am queen of the world, we shall send nurses to peoples’ homes for the 3 day old well-baby visit, rather than send 3-day old babies and postpartum moms to the doctor office. Goes triple for visits during RSV/flu season.

I’m not trying to discourage the Instagram toddler food people, but may I suggest the alternative strategy used in our home: Toddler: What that mommy? Me: That’s couscous. Toddler: I don’t like it Me: Good. It’s mine. Toddler: Me eat it? Me: No, it’s my lunch. Your lunch is

Finally got my own copy instead of checking it out of the library every fall and xeroxing my favorite pages. Soup season is the best season.

Usha Vance is quickly becoming one of my favorite people involved in the current Administration. This was her response to a CEO holding forth on how “immersive gaming” could supply meaning for ordinary people who lost their jobs:

"For far too long, we got addicted to cheap labor—both overseas and by importing it into our own country—and we got lazy." Read more from VP @JDVance's remarks at @a16z's American Dynamism Summit in Commonplace:

Anyone who has ever chased a toddler knows the ideal run is more of a stealthy pounce rather than a full-out run, because if they *know* you are chasing them, they’re gonna run faster.

For a four year old, I’d provide: - a pocket microscope - a cheap camera for kids - his own notebook and pencil for drawing what he sees - lots of time outside - science museum membership/visits -reading a lot of good books together and discussing them with him - age

OK, let’s put on our striver parent hats for a second. I have a four-year-old. I’m not neurotic about getting such a young kid involved in a bunch of different stuff, but what things have the highest return for early involvement? What should I be thinking about? Any specific

My biggest gripe with “gentle parenting” is that it over-emphasizes “validating” a child’s feelings in a way that I believe is actively harmful. Children should learn feelings are important, but so is self-control and agency apart from passing emotions.

Ladies, my hot take: if you suspect your boyfriend will think less of you if your body is different postpartum… DO NOT MARRY HIM. Find a nicer guy who intends to tell the mother of his children that she is *even more* beautiful after the babies come.

In the middle of nursing my fourth baby, and I *just* learned that extended breastfeeding significantly reduces *my* risk of ovarian and breast cancer. I feel like they should tell you this in the hospital??? Feeling better about all the hours I’ve logged at 2am nursing babies.

My personal philosophy is one must cultivate almost zen like indifference to toddler eating or they will sense your weakness and pounce (sadly only learned this on the third toddler)

Just in case it brightens someone’s day: please know that my toddler escaped her crib at least a half dozen times last night between 12am and 1am. Each time I found her stark naked in the bathtub trying to open the bubble bath soap…..
