I post NE dialect, history, old things & anything that interests me. I have eclectic tastes in art but especially like "northern, grim, industrial". I reply to much Brexit & women's rights though rarely post those here. Owner of a very dry sense of humour.

We were clearing drawers after Mam died. Found 'presentation boxes' of embroidered , lace trimmed fine quality cotton handkerchiefs, with gift tags attached. Beautiful things. She'd received them for her 21st birthday. She died at 68. She'd 'kept them for best'. ๐Ÿ˜”

This is how older ladies looked when I was a child. Headsquare, buttoned coat, skin coloured tights (probably stockings though, that's what Granma wore, tights were "too modern") & the zip up ankle boots. A handbag on the chair. Salford, but it could be anywhere in the north.

Dear @BBCRadio2 , Please advise Scott Mills that Kielder Forest may be near the Border, but it is actually in Northumberland. That rather large county just below Scotland, next to Cumbria. You may have heard of it. Thankyou.

It's how it was. There were sheets too, given as wedding presents. Very good quality cotton in presentation boxes. Sister & I washed everything & brought them & the hankies into use. I keep nothing for best. I can be gardening & walking the dog in a decent frock.

"There is now a backlash" she says (about another issue) ....well, she hasn't seen anything yet, if she maintains that a woman is someone who has transitioned into one. No, no & thrice no. I have let my membership to the LP lapse because of this specific issue & told them that.

Byker means "settlement by the marsh". Walker is "marsh by the wall". "Ker" being from the Old Norse kjarr, marsh. I like a 'ker' (or carr as they are called) as regular readers will testify. There are a lot about when you look...& I do.

Now THIS is a piece of art. I don't post much art nowadays but THIS,THIS. The atmosphere. The sense of desolation of both soul & place. I could continue but you get my drift.

I have read the article. It clearly says there are mixed leagues available in the locality. The parents of the boy concerned should be ashamed of themselves.

The general public have absolutely no idea what Freeport's and SEZ are. When they find out they will be incandescent. A lot of people have been trying to raise awareness but you might be the one that makes the difference and makes this explode into public consciousness.

Likewise. Grandma's bungalow at Widdrington Station was tiny - but there was a front room kept for best.
