    As I left the Conservatives conference tonight to head home I came across a queue of people waiting patiently for a hot meal courtesy of a local Islamic charity. It took 5 mins of quiet convo to learn their number included victims of childhood trauma, mentally ill…1/2

    …a bereaved parent, a husband queuing for food for him and epileptic wife. Addicts and ex prisoners too All I spoke to on benefits, hoping for a rise. “Every day could be my last” said one old dear, in her late 60s but looking older. Heart-wrenching. Well done @WhoIsHussain

    Tonight is the 64th consecutive night in hospital for my lovely dad. My mum has been at his bedside every day for at least 6 hours at a time. At his worst she has washed him, fed him, stroked his hand and brushed his hair. She massages his feet, makes sure he’s hydrated 1/4

    Anyone who tries to pretend the NHs and social care is in good shape needs a head wobble. It is dependent on goodwill of people who are worn down working inside a system not fit for purpose, certainly not for ageing. Anyway - here’s my lovely mum and dad. They deserve better

    This is enlightening; it shows how a lot of newsrooms & broadcasters just don't like complex, nuanced narratives and will seek to shut them down. The presenters have no grasp of Iranian history or politics & that "let's talk about nuclear weapons" q is just bonkers.

    And don’t even get me started on the sadness of seeing dementia begin to kick in, dad undoubtedly affected by the trauma of illness, separation from all he knows, five ward transfers and multiple strangers. It’s heartbreaking 4/5

    But we have a broken system that means we are waiting for a social care package to be agreed so he can safely be back where he needs to be. In the meantime he has just got over yet another chest infection picked up inside the ward! It’s crazy. 3/4
