Some professional news: I'll be moving to the University of Notre Dame @nd_econ this fall! I'm really excited about the move. I'm really excited for my new colleagues and department.

At the risk of being too personal, Lindsey is one of the reasons that I do the research I do. (The following shared with her permission) Lindsey was on track to be valedictorian of her high school, but instead enrolled early in college during what would have been her senior yr

A happy day in our home. My wife, Lindsey graduated with a degree in Visual Art. Congrats Lindsey! They let me be part of the ceremony, hence the robes.

My first job was at BYU where the department very explicitly did not require a top 5 for tenure. I think this was extremely helpful for my career. If juniors have a top 5 or bust mentality, they can overinvest in projects that just don't have the potential upside

I remember Joe Altonji sitting next to me at the NBER clambake when I knew no one there and having a very nice conversation. It meant a lot to me then and I still remember it years later. In contrast, I remember none of the talks I saw that week

Please RT! @Kasey_Buckles and I are hiring a pre-doc to start this summer as part of @NotreDame's poverty initiative. The person will work closely with Kasey and I on our projects. Kasey is working on economic history/demography using the Census Tree jobs.nd.edu/postings/33588

Excited to see this paper in print--it was started when I was a grad student! This paper changed over time and now discusses the identification of rank effects. Thanks to the referees who pushed us to make this change which I now view as the largest contribution of the paper.

Super interesting paper by Adam Looney on change in cost of college "While real top-line “sticker prices” have increased by 114 percent since 1993, after accounting for increases in financial aid and tax benefits, net tuition prices have not changed... journals.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1086/73…

We're very excited this paper is now forthcoming! Thanks to @Econ_Sandy @lisajdettling Sarena Goodman and Lesley Turner. Maybe will do a thread later. Big picture take away is that student loans seem to affect investment in college as well as the labor market/credit markets

That's why I've tried to get students to file the FAFSA or claim tax credits (without much success). It's why I study financial aid. College has such positive effects on graduates, and often a small amount of money can make a big difference, it would have for Lindsey

Got this back from a grant review: With the exception of Dr. Denning, all are junior scholars with impressive records.
